  • Patent number: 4541608
Abstract: A high pressure shut-off valve has a hollow valve body with an open end, closed end and a cylindrical cavity with a cover. Aligned inlet and outlet portions form a straight bore intersecting the valve cavity. A plug valve assembly has a supporting mandrel reciprocally slidable to a position abutting the valve cavity closed end, with an end portion having a transverse valve passage and an intermediate portion for closing the valve body bore, the valve passage being aligned with the bore when retracted. An elastomeric sealing sleeve member on the mandrel seals the cavity wall around the bore when the valve is closed. A mon-rising threaded stem, operated by a hand wheel, moves the valve assembly and has a lost motion connection operable on overtravel to compress the sleeve member longitudinally along the mandrel. Metal discs supported integrally on a supporting sleeve fill holes in the sleeve member to prevent extrusion of the sleeve into the bore.

  • Patent number: 4468001
Abstract: In order to minimize wear and an over tightening effect in a shut-off valve (10) intended primarily for sanitation valves, which has a valve housing (12) a valve piston (16) that can be displaced axially by the operation of an element such as a handle (52) with a valve head (18) which can be lowered onto a valve seat (20) and raised from this and which is arranged upwards in the direction of flow relative to this, the valve piston is housed in a holding element (40) which can be displaced by means of a cylinder-shaped guide element (32) used to achieve the axial movement, which, with its (lower) edge area (36) is housed by the valve housing (12) and with the other (upper) edge area interacts with a further element (30) that holds the valve seat, in which connection the guide element together with the holding element can be rotated relative to the further element that contains the valve seat and to the valve housing (12) if the valve piston is located in its end position.

  • Patent number: 4433827
Abstract: A high pressure shut-off valve consists of a hollow valve body having an open end, a closed end and a cylindrical cavity with a cover therefor. Aligned tubular inlet and outlet portions on opposite sides of the valve body form a continuous straight bore intersecting the cavity at a right angle thereto. A plug valve assembly positioned in the valve body cavity has a supporting mandrel a slidable therein between an extended position abutting the closed end and a retracted position some distance therefrom. The mandrel has an end portion with a laterally extending valve passage and an intermediate portion closing the valve body bore when in the extended position, the valve passage being aligned with the bore when in the retracted position. A sealing sleeve member of elastomeric material surrounds the mandrel intermediate portion and engages the entire circumferential wall of the cavity around the bore to seal against leakage when the valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 4337688
Abstract: An adjustable guide pin arrangement for an integral power steering gear is provided. A reciprocating valve is provided within the piston of the gear to selectively distribute pressurized fluid to the end of the piston for steering action. An input shaft engages the valve to move the valve providing the input signal. An output pinion engages the piston along the side. The guide pin is mounted in the piston and has two pairs of tapered flat guide surfaces at its distal end. One pair of guide surfaces engages a corresponding tapered slot in the valve for each adjusted position. Screw threads are provided to adjustably move the pin inward for less clearance and outwart for more clearance between the guide surfaces and the sides of the slot. The taper of the distal end of the pin is approximately 2.degree.-21/2.degree.. Each quarter turn preferably provides a differential clearance of approximately 0.001 inch. A tool-engaging slot on the head of the pin provides for easy visual adjustment during assembly.
