Detachable Actuator Patents (Class 251/291)
  • Patent number: 4633897
Abstract: A valve actuator is provided which clamps to the axially extending assembly bolts of the valve or to ribs on the valve body simulating the bolts. The actuator has a support frame with ears which seat over a pair of the bolts or ribs and by means of stops formed by recesses in the ears seat the support frame on the bolts or ribs and threaded anchor members, when tightened, cause the ears to tightly clamp to the bolts or ribs, preventing either lateral or axial movement with respect to the valve body.

  • Patent number: 4616803
Abstract: The invention comprises an improved override and an interrelated valve system. A main valve has an actuator, the actuator in turn having a control for communicating a control signal to the actuator for selectively causing the actuator to place the main valve in its open or closed position. The override is associated with the main valve and selectively shiftable between an engaged mode in which the override is operatively connected with the main valve for moving the main valve between its open and closed positions, and a disengaged mode in which the operative connection between the override and the main valve is interrupted, whereby the main valve may move independently of the override. A shut-off functionally interconnects the override and the actuator control and is operative, upon shifting of the override to its engaged mode, to block the control signal from the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4221359
Abstract: A hydraulic valve normally mounted at a convenient level for manual operation on a machine can be operated by a person's foot as opposed to his hand. Towards this end, there are provided mounting means for mounting the valve in an upside down position at the same level together with an elongated tube extending from the normally existing manually operable portion of the valve vertically downwardly terminating short of the floor. A transverse foot pedal is pivoted to the machine frame at the level of the lower end of the tube, this lower end in turn being pivoted to the same foot pedal at a point spaced from the first pivoting point. The arrangement is such that rocking movement of the foot pedal will actuate the valve in the same manner as manual actuation when the valve was upright.

  • Patent number: 4199131
Abstract: A portable add-on actuator module for use with a wireline cutting surface safety valve to provide supplemental energy for closing and simultaneously cutting a wireline extending through the surface safety valve in the event of an emergency. The unit includes a spring loaded locking collet assembly arranged to engage a locking recess within the stem of a surface safety valve so that the spring force may be added to normal valve closing forces such as line pressure and valve stem springs to supplement such forces for insuring the cutting by the surface valve member of a wireline extending through the member. The actuator module has a body which rests on the safety valve body without the use of any connecting structure. The module also includes structure for hydraulically compressing the spring for connecting the module on a safety valve and for hydraulically shifting the latching collet assembly to a disengaging condition for releasing the module from a safety valve.

  • Patent number: 4194523
Abstract: An easily sterilizable, low profile loading and unloading valve for mounting at the bottom of a tank includes a flange which is mounted adjacent to an opening in the bottom of the tank. A chamber extends through the flange, and a valve plug is mounted to one of the surfaces of the flange and extends into the tank opening. The valve plug normally closes the chamber in the flange, but is moveable to a position in which the chamber is opened to the tank. A cap is mounted to the other surface of the flange and closes the chamber. This cap may, alternatively, either take the form of a closure plate which closes the chamber during transport of the tank, or an adapter assembly which is mounted to the flange and which includes a connector for a loading and unloading conduit and a threaded biasing member for biasing the valve plug from its closed to its opened position.

Abstract: An atraumatic valving mechanism and its method of operation for use within the blood passageway of a blood access device, the blood passageway connecting a blood vessel within the body to the body exterior. The valving device includes a plugging means for effecting a seal within the blood passageway and for substantially expelling the blood from the device upon closing, and a reciprocal stem which is connected to the plugging means and may be pushed or pulled in order to close or open the blood access device valve as desired. The valving mechanism includes a disposable connectable valve chamber which is adapted to be secured about that portion of the blood access device blood passageway located at the body exterior.

  • Patent number: 4141535
Abstract: A bottom operable lading valve assembly for tank cars includes a valve closure plug movable between open and closed positions relative to a circular plug seat located within a valve body opening. A housing is affixed to the valve body with fasteners comprising a shear plane. The housing includes a generally vertical housing opening into which a rotatable valve operator is mounted comprising a lower tool connection portion, a shaft portion and an upper operating portion. The upper operating portion includes upper operator threads which engage an operating stem depending from the closure plug. The upper operating portion and the valve stem terminate on or above the shear plane. The valve operator shaft portion separates below the shear plane in the event impact causes the housing to shear off along the shear plane to maintain the upper operating portion, valve stem and closure plug in seated position to prevent escape of lading.

Abstract: An adapter for use with a bottom operable tank car valve assembly includes an upper attachment portion for quickly attaching the adapter to a bottom operable tank car valve guard assembly. The adapter includes a body portion having one or more spouts extending radially outwardly from the body portion to receive loading and unloading conduits. An adapter operator is provided having a lower tool connection portion and a vertical extension extending upwardly within the adapter for attachment to a valve closure operator located within the valve guard assembly for opening and closing the tank car valve. The present invention also includes a method of transporting lading from place to place utilizing the adapter for loading and unloading the lading and the valve guard assembly while the car is in transit to protect the valve closure from impacts in transit.
