With Friction Detent Patents (Class 251/297)
  • Patent number: 4195551
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to an electromagnetic detent assembly for use with a manually operable hydraulic control valve to maintain the control spool in a predetermined limit position. The electromagnetic force created by the electromagnetic detent can be varied by an electronic circuit commensurate with the particular hydraulic application. A "feel" mechanism is also included, indicating to the operator that further manual movement of the control valve will cause it to reach the electromagnetic detent position.

  • Patent number: 4185660
Abstract: A cylindrical valve spool is slidably positioned in a chamber of a valve housing having a plurality of fluid inlet ports and a plurality of fluid outlet ports. The valve spool is movable to a selected one of a plurality of positions to interconnect a selected inlet port with a selected output port. A detent apparatus is associated with one end of the valve spool and is operable to lock the valve spool in one of three positions in the chamber. A remotely operated first pilot valve is operable to convey pressurized fluid to either end of the valve spool and thereby shift the valve spool to either a first or second end position for interconnecting selected inlet and outlet ports. A centering device is operable to shift the valve spool from either detented end position to a detented center or neutral position by deactivating the pilot valve and simultaneously conveying pressurized fluid from a second pilot valve to the centering apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4181152
Abstract: A manifold controls the venting of pressurized gas from an ordnance launc. A manifold block is provided with a number of passageways which communicate with a pair of recesses machined in the block. A high pressure gas valve is disposed in one of the recesses while a venting valve is rotatably positioned in the other recess. Ports are included in both of the valves so that when they are rotated a venting sequence of the launcher is effected. A specifically configured handle is secured to each of the valves and a spring biased pawl engages a number of teeth on the venting valve handle to allow only one direction of rotation. The configurations of the handles, the ratchet and pawl ensure a preestablished venting sequence and readying of the launcher for another shot.

  • Patent number: 4142543
Abstract: A valve stem and disc for a disc-type valve assembly are held together by a retaining ring and constructed such that they may be assembled inside a valve housing while avoiding the possibility of the retaining ring binding upon either the stem or disc during assembly. The valve stem includes a truncated conical portion forming its distal end which acts to align the various valve members during assembly. In the method, the retaining ring is mounted on the valve disc first rather than on the valve stem. When the truncated conical end of the valve stem is inserted in the disc so as to spread the retaining ring until mating engagement is reached between the stem, the disc, and the retaining ring. The diameter of the truncated stem distal end is sized to preclude any binding on the retainer ring or disc during assembly.

  • Patent number: 4079660
Abstract: A piston type, pneumatically powered motor includes a valve assembly for reversibly supplying pneumatic fluid to opposite sides of a piston to reciprocate the piston through power strokes in both directions. The valve assembly has a spool reciprocably mounted in a sleeve that normally moves between two positions to reversibly supply pneumatic fluid to the piston. An actuating mechanism shifts the valve spool between its two normal positions responsive to movement of the piston near the end of each power stroke. When the reciprocation rate of the piston reaches a predetermined high or excessive rate, the actuating mechanism shifts the valve spool to a third position that short circuits the normal path of the pneumatic fluid flowing to the piston and channels the pneumatic fluid to an exhaust port.

  • Patent number: 4075899
Abstract: This invention relates to operating mechanisms for hydraulic control systems and it is an object of the invention to provide an operating mechanism which is self-locking. The mechanism includes a bar which is slidable in a channel, one face of the bar being cut away to provide two inclined surfaces. Rollers are retained by springs in the spaces between the inclined surfaces and one side of the channel. A plate is also located between the bar and the said side of the channel and a control member serves to displace this plate along the channel. The arrangement is such that, when the plate is displaced in either direction, it pushes a respective one of the rollers towards one end of the bar, thereby allowing it to roll down the inclined surface. On the other hand, if a force is applied to the bar in either direction, a respective one of the rollers will move up the inclined surface and wedge against the side of the channel, thereby locking the bar in position.
