    Abstract: A diaphragm sealed, pressure balanced valve assembly includes a valve body and a cartridge connected to the valve body. The cartridge includes a cartridge loading end having a retaining member engaged to the cartridge loading end. A valve member slides coaxial to a longitudinal axis of the valve body. A resilient material first diaphragm is connected to and extends diametrically outward from the valve member having a diaphragm body clasped between the retaining member and the cartridge loading end, creating a first diaphragm fluid pressure boundary. A resilient material second diaphragm is connected to and extends diametrically outward from the valve member at an opposite end of the valve member with respect to the first diaphragm and has a diaphragm body clasped between first and second adjustable retention members, creating a second diaphragm fluid pressure boundary.

In the microfabricated device according to the invention, detection of the presence of molecules (i.e., polynucleotides, proteins, or antigen/antibody complexes) are correlated to a hybridization signal from an optically-detectable (e.g. fluorescent) reporter associated with the bound molecules. These hybridization signals can be detected by any suitable means, for example optical, and can be stored for example in a computer as a representation of the presence of a particular gene.

The total output volume of fluid dispensed from each metering chamber may be accumulated. The process may be repeated until the accumulated volume equals the desired volume and may be repeated for another fluid from a plurality of different fluids.

    Abstract: The invention provides a valve and a method of operating the valve that makes it possible to reduce the diameter of the vacuum exhaustion pipings to make the facility for the vacuum exhaustion system small, which results in lower costs and shortens vacuum exhaustion time, and also which can prevent corrosion, cloggings, and seal leakages inside the piping system caused by the accumulation of substances produced by the decomposition of gas flowing through the pipings. In particular, in accordance with the present invention, an aluminum passivation is applied on the piping parts, i.e. the valve and others, that are used in the vacuum exhaustion system so as to inhibit gas decomposition caused by temperature rise at the time of baking so that components for reduction in the diameter size in the vacuum exhaustion system are provided. Thus, corrosion, cloggings and seat leakages caused by gas decomposition are prevented.
