Abstract: A valve body substantially symmetrical about a longitudinal axis has at least one internal space and comprises guide means and two separately formed portions joined by at least one cylindrical web. One or more passages spaced apart from the longitudinal axis allow fluid communication between at least one internal space and space external to the valve body. At least one internal space may be substantially filled with a substantially incompressible flowable substance to facilitate pressure equalization across the valve body. Forging or casting valve body portions to near-net-shape prior to joining minimizes machining necessary to achieve a final desired shape. Increased valve durability and reduced metal wear arise from reduced valve body weight and correspondingly reduced impact loading as the valve body moves to seal against a valve seat. Valve sealing may be aided by an elastomeric seal in a peripheral integral seal retention groove of the valve body.

Serrations on each of the opposing groove walls are offset to accommodate differing stress concentrations in the walls. Opposing groove walls diverge peripherally. Offset serrations result in decreased metal fatigue from impact and bending stress. Offset serrations also improve valve sealing and increase valve service life by maintaining correct seal position on the valve body while minimizing background stress in the seal elastomer(s).

Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel injection valve for fuel injection systems of self-igniting air-compression internal combustion engines. The fuel injection valve comprises an actuator, housed in a valve chamber, and a valve closing element that is actuated by the actuator by means of a valve needle. The valve closing element interacts with a valve face to give a sealing seat. The valve also comprises a transition piece that is attached to the actuator, and an expandable hose encompasses the periphery of the actuator and a part of the transition piece. The expandable hose is connected to the transition piece in an area of fastening.

Abstract: A self-cleaning valve assembly is provided, such as for use in a vacuum cleaner such as a particularly advantageous vacuum cleaner system that has at least two filters and self-cleans its filters via back-flushing, without needing to stop normal operation to self-clean. Also, a vacuum cleaner is provided that uses permanent, self-cleaning filters, and does not need disposable filters or filter bags, and advantageously can use inexpensive plastic bags. In another vacuum cleaner system, waste is collected in an ordinary plastic bag without any special preparation or modification of the bag being needed. Further, an inventive self-cleaning X-valve assembly cleans itself and is useable in the vacuum cleaner system.

  • Patent number: 7461642
Abstract: Means for attenuating the seating force of a cam-actuated poppet valve such as an exhaust gas recirculation valve in an internal combustion engine including a shock-absorber disposed between the valve stem and valve head. In a currently preferred embodiment, the shock-absorber is a wave washer disposed around the valve stem and captured between the valve stem and the valve head, between which axial motion is allowed. After the valve head engages the valve seat to close the valve, any further travel of the actuator cam and valve stem is absorbed by compression of the wave washer, thus attenuating additional force on elements of the valve actuation train. In opening the valve, the reverse occurs, in that initial motion of the actuator cam and valve stem serves to relieve compression of the wave washer, followed by removal of the valve head from the valve seat.
