Abstract: In accordance with various aspects of the present invention, methods and apparatuses for designing and configuring dissimilar material retention, specifically a valve plug assembly, are disclosed. The methods and apparatuses enable the application of a wider range of materials in a valve plug assembly than previous valve plug assemblies, and also increase the operational temperature range of the valve plug assembly. In an exemplary embodiment, a valve plug assembly comprises a plug head, a collet surrounding the plug head, a plug base adjacent to the collet, and a retainer surrounding the tapered outside surface of the collet and the plug base, where the plug head extends past the collet and the retainer. The valve plug assembly is configured to create an interference fit of the various components.

  • Patent number: 7726026
Abstract: Hot-isostatic-pressure (HIP) is used to bond a cemented carbide inlay (e.g., an inlay ring) on a metal substrate (e.g., a hull ring). For example, an inlay ring is made from a powdered metal inlay preform typically comprising at least one metal carbide and at least one nonvolatile cement. The inlay preform is compressed and sintered to make an inlay ring having a predetermined shape, the inlay ring having a modulus of elasticity substantially greater than that of a hull ring. An inlay ring and a hull ring are sealingly vacuum brazed together with at least one evacuated bonding area between them. HIP is applied to compress the hull ring against the inlay ring, thus fusing the hull ring and inlay ring in at least one evacuated bonding area. Following HIP, the inlay ring and hull ring form a fused assembly in which the inlay ring substantially retains its predetermined shape.

Abstract: An inlet valve is partially coated with a protective coating to resist corrosion and gas impingement when used in an internal combustion engine. The inlet valve has a hard cladding that is shaped to function as a valve seat. The hard cladding forms an interface with the valve head body, which is typically made of a softer metallic material than the hard cladding. The protective coating is bonded to the inlet valve and covers the cladding-body interface. The protective coating is resistant to corrosion, wear from gas impingement, and can withstand the high temperatures reached in internal combustion engines. Internal engines incorporating the valves are more durable and less susceptible to catastrophic valve failure. A method for making the inlet valves generally includes masking a portion of the valve stem and the valve seat, applying a protective coating to cladding-body interface, and curing the protective coating or otherwise bonding the protective coating to the inlet valve.

With a vacuum thermal insulating valve comprising a valve equipped with a valve body and an actuator, and a vacuum thermal insulating box that houses the valve, the afore-mentioned vacuum thermal insulating box S is formed by a square-shaped lower vacuum jacket S5 having a cylinder-shaped vacuum thermal insulating pipe receiving part J on a side and with its upper face made open, and the square-shaped upper vacuum jackets S4, which is hermetically fitted to the lower vacuum jacket S5 and with its lower face made open.

Abstract: A solenoid-operated cutoff valve for use with fuel cells has a movable member disposed in a guide housing for displacement upon energization of a solenoid. When the movable member is displaced, a pilot valve is unseated from a pilot valve seat. A fluid in a communication chamber flows through a pilot passage into an output port. The communication chamber is divided into a first communication chamber and a second communication chamber by a diaphragm. Under a pressure difference developed between the first communication chamber and the second communication chamber, a main valve of a valve head is unseated from a valve seat of a valve housing, opening the solenoid-operated cutoff valve.

Abstract: A plastic aerosol valve with a plastic valve stem, plastic housing, plastic mounting cup, and plastic locking ring. The plastic valve is assembled into the mounting cup. The plastic housing is assembled into the plastic mounting cup by snap fittings. The plastic mounting cup has a peripheral portion that snap fits up into the plastic locking ring. The plastic locking ring has frangibly-connected upper and lower portions. The lower portion snap fits with the top of a plastic product bottle to mount the aerosol valve assembly on the bottle. The upper ring portion thereafter is telescoped downwardly over the lower ring portion to lock and retain the aerosol valve assembly on the pressurized bottle. The plastic mounting cup can be molded separately, or integrally with the plastic locking ring. A check valve may be contained in the valve stem.

Abstract: The present invention provides a valve which makes it possible to reduce the diameter of the vacuum exhaustion pipings for making the facility for the vacuum exhaustion system small, as a result lowering the costs, and making the vacuum exhaustion time short, and also which can prevent the corrosions, cloggings, and seal leakages inside the piping system caused by the accumulation of substances produced by the decomposition of the gas. Specifically, the aluminum passivation is applied on the piping parts, i.e. the valve and others, used in the vacuum exhaustion system to inhibit the gas decomposition caused by the temperature rise at the time of the baking so that components for the reduction in the diameter size in the vacuum exhaustion system are provided. The corrosions, cloggings and seat leakages caused by the gas decomposition are prevented.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention includes a fluid control valve device having a valve portion and a bearing portion. The valve portion is constructed with a valve seat arranged within a valve housing and a valve body, which moves towards and away from the valve seat in an axial direction. The bearing portion is configured to accommodate a bearing and a seal. The bearing supports a valve shaft that extends together with the valve body. The seal is attached around a valve shaft in order to prevent fluid from entering the bearing portion. A surface of the valve shaft, at least a portion that slidably contacts the seal, may have a hydrophobic property. Peripheral grooves may be formed in an inner circumferential surface of the valve housing at a position proximal to the valve portion on an upstream side and/or a downstream side. The grooves open toward a side opposing to the valve seat in a flow direction.

Abstract: While ceramic materials possess properties that make them suitable for use in fuel system components, they tend to be susceptible to failure when exposed to tensile stresses. The retention system described herein helps to reduce the tensile stresses experienced by a retained member by providing a retained member with an engagement structure, a multi-piece retention ring that engages the engagement structure, a resilient member coupled to the retention ring, and a retainer coupled around at least a portion of the retention ring and resilient member and spaced apart from the retention ring and/or resilient member by a gap. The retained member, retention ring, resilient member, and retainer are configured so that the retention ring is moveable in an axial direction relative to the retained member and so that the movement of the retention ring acts to expand the resilient member against the bias provided by the resilient member.

Abstract: A tandem master cylinder (1) with central valves has ball-shaped valve members (25, 40) with leaf springs (26, 41) serving as valve springs. The ball-shaped valve members (25, 40) can be manufactured of a plastic material, coated with an elastomer. The size of the balls is preferably adjusted to the size of the pistons (4, 5) to allow a maximum flow while ensuring at the same time that the piston walls retain a thickness. The leaf springs (26, 41) have a bowl-shaped body (61), which is shaped like a partial sphere. To avoid an entrapment of brake fluid or a vacuum between the balls (25, 40) and the leaf springs (26, 41), respectively, a central hole (62) has been provided in the bowl-shaped body (61). The leaf springs (26, 41) are equipped with a plurality of tongue-shaped extremities (63) extending radially outward with end portions (64) bent toward the axial side on which the valve members (25, 40) are located.
