  • Patent number: 5302088
Abstract: A water powered sump pump has a control housing connected to a source of water under pressure and to a drain pipe located in a sump. An outlet pipe leads from the control housing to a suction generating assembly in communication with the drain pipe for entraining water from the sump for discharge elsewhere. A diaphragm closure normally closes a water passage in the housing and divides the housing into two chambers. A passageway through the diaphragm enables the pressure of water in the two chambers to be equalized. A bleed line communicates between one of the chambers and the sump. A valve responsive to the rise of water in the sump initiates the flow of water through the bleed line, thereby enabling lowering of the pressure in the chamber with which the bleed line communicates and enabling the pressure of water in the other chamber to unseat the diaphragm and open the passage.

An electromagnetic coil assembly opens the valve by shifting the armature and its seal away from the pilot passage allowing the control valve to open and follow the armature until its seal again restricts the pilot passage and achieves a new force balance position for the control valve. Precise modulation is achieved by shaping the force vs. displacement curves for the electromagnetic assembly opening force acting on the armature and the same curve for the spring and other forces acting in a closing direction on the armature so they have substantially different slopes and intersect at a locus of points in the operating range of movement of the armature.

  • Patent number: 5217043
Abstract: The valve has a casing with inlet and outlet ports, and a valve opening bordered by a valve seat communicating the ports. A flexible diaphragm defines a control chamber and a pressure chamber on opposite sides thereof and moves between an open position clear of the seat, and a closed position against the seat. The valve seat is within the pressure chamber, and the diaphragm is normally urged closed. A flexible bellows extends between and is sealed to the diaphragm and the casing on a side of the diaphragm remote from the seat. The bellows provides a bellows chamber isolated from the control chamber to enclose an effective area of the diaphragm generally equal to the valve opening of the valve seat. The diaphragm has an orifice providing limited communication between the control and pressure chambers and having a size sufficient to reduce fluid flow between the chambers to reduce diaphragm speed and thus chances of hydraulic hammer.

  • Patent number: 5213303
Abstract: An improved solenoid actuated valve is provided of the type having a fluid pressure-operated diaphragm to move a valve head between open and closed positions. Fluid under pressure at a valve inlet is admitted through a diaphragm port to a control chamber for normally retaining the diaphragm and a valve head carried thereby in the closed position. A solenoid unit is actuatable to vent the control chamber to relieve pressure therein, whereby the fluid pressure at the valve inlet displaces the diaphragm to open the valve head. The opened valve head moves into close proximity with a flow control piston within the control chamber and cooperates therewith to meter fluid outflow from the control chamber in a manner maintaining a minimal or substantially zero pressure differential across the diaphragm. The position of the flow control piston is adjustable to variably select the open position of the valve head in accordance with a desired valve flow rate.

A bleed assembly extends into a pressure chamber located above the diaphragm for bleeding fluid pressure out of the chamber, thereby opening the valve. The bleed assembly includes a hollow tube inserted into a plastic plunger seat that is carried on the cap of the valve beneath the plunger of an actuating solenoid. Such a bleed assembly does not need a bleed tube having a precisely controlled length, and is not sensitive to flexure of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4860990
Abstract: A volute chamber having an inflow port is provided at the inlet of an extraction hole of a diaphragm valve. The volute chamber is formed with a lid in a hollow portion of a synthetic resin material member of the diaphragm member. The volute chamber is formed with a cap as volute chamber forming piece at the lower portion of the synthetic resin material member. A small projection is formed at the inlet of the extraction hole and protrudes in the volute chamber. A rib having an inflow port is formed partially at the outer surface of the cap. The spinning speed of the water in the volute chamber and the fluid circulation resistance in the volute chamber become large. The water supply to a back pressure chamber reduces and the closing speed of the diaphragm valve decreases. The water hammering action in the water inlet valve can be mitigated due to the rapid closing operation of the diaphragm valve.

Abstract: A control valve which includes a main body, a stop valve, a spring-loaded control rod, a support rod and a corresponding shaft, a lid with a fixing element on it, a guide rod and a float cylinder. The float cylinder is restrained only to mover vertically on the guide rod. The stop valve moves vertically in a valve chamber on the upper end of the main body under the influence of water pressure. As water is flushed from the reservoir, the float descends along with the water level and causes the control rod to allow water flow from the upper part of the valve chamber, so that water can flow into the reservoir.

Abstract: A valve controlled by the same medium it handles and released by a preferably electromagnetically activated control valve. Contaminants in the medium that clog up the control bore in servocontrolled valves that employ a differential piston, a relief bore that can be closed off with a control valve, and a control bore that connect a pressure connection with a control space prevent the valve from closing. A mechanism that is especially simple in design is proposed to constantly keep the control bore clean during operation. The control space accommodates a wire spring that rest against the differential piston and against the valve housing and extends through the control bore. The motion of the piston is accompanied by a relative motion between the control bore and the spring that results in a constant cleaning action. The valve is especially practical in water lines and has the advantage of constant self-cleaning on the part of the control bore.

Abstract: Pleated paper barrier type air filter elements are cleaned by a reverse air jet cleaning system which includes one or more specifically shaped cleaning air valves in which a plurality of jet nozzles or orifices are arranged in a predetermined pattern to provide a totally enveloping air jet which is discharged into a flow tube immediately downstream of the clean air flow chamber of a generally tubular filter element. The jet pattern provides a temporary pressure seal within the flow tube and entrains a substantial amount of ambient air into the reverse flow jet to thoroughly flush elements to clean dust cake from the exterior surfaces thereof. The multiple jet arrangement reduces the overall space occupied by the reverse jet cleaning system and provides a larger mass flow of cleaning air. Multiple jet orifice valves may be configured in virtually any geometric shape to provide a desired jet pattern.

Abstract: A valve acting as a gate valve or as a cock, whose body is divided into two chambers that communicate respectively with the inlet and the outlet. A fixed tubular sealing element is arranged therein, which consists of a flexible sleeve that, when in its swollen configuration, seals the holes of a riddled hollow cylinder in which it is housed, said sleeve acting thus on the flow from the first chamber to the second one through said holes. A third chamber is obtained within said tubular sealing element, a small part of the total flow passing through said chamber; thus, by the regulation of the flow rate of said mirror flow, by means of a stem valve assembly, the automatic regulation is corresondingly obtained of the main flow passing to the outside part of said sleeve, so that the regulation is obtained of the whole fluid stream.
