A tubing holder receives at least a portion of the third fluid line. The tubing holder has a first portion and a second portion movable relative to the first portion to selectively block fluid flow through the third fluid line.

The method involves placing the hand of a user within the sleeve with the sleeve engaging the forearm of the user, and initiating the sleeve evacuation process in response to the hand and forearm within the sleeve. In an embodiment of the invention the user forms a fist and moves the fist towards the porthole. This creates a pressure increase that can be detected to initiate the evacuation process. Alternatively the user may wear on his or her hand or forearm an element such as a magnetic element or an RFID chip that can be detected at the porthole to begin the evacuation process.

The stop can be connected to a tube gripping feature, so that a pulling force on the tube near the gripping feature can disengage the stop from the occluder, releasing the occluder to compress the tube. In some embodiments, the pulling force applied to the tube causes movement of the gripping feature by taking up slack in a portion of the tube held in the device. In other embodiments, the pulling force applied to the tube causes the tube to stretch elastically near the gripping feature, causing the gripping feature to move, and disengaging the stop from the occluder.

    Abstract: The present invention generally relates to occluders and, in particular, to occluders for use in medical infusion systems. In one aspect, the occluder contains one or more tubes through which fluid can flow, and the occluder can be automatically controlled to allow or at least partially prevent fluid flow. In some cases, the occluder may be constructed and arranged to fail (e.g., due to loss of power) in a “closed” position, i.e., a position that at least partially prevents fluid flow. In addition, in one embodiment, the occluder may be manually overridden, even when in a failed state, by a user. For instance, in the event of a power failure, a user may be able to manually override the occluder to remove tubing from the occluder. Such occluders may find use, for example, in medical devices such as hemodialysis machines, medical infusion pumps, plasmapheresis devices, and the like.

    Abstract: A toothpaste tube squeezer has first and second squeezing blocks for holding a toothpaste tube therebetween. A first clamping mechanism is positioned toward an opening end of the toothpaste tube to apply pressure to the first and second squeezing blocks to squeeze the toothpaste tube. A second clamping mechanism is positioned toward a sealed end of the toothpaste tube to release pressure on the blocks. Both squeezing blocks may have slightly outwardly curved surfaces to contact the toothpaste tube. As the second clamping mechanism is loosened to release pressure applied at the sealed end of the toothpaste tube, a gap may increase between the squeezing blocks at the sealed end of the toothpaste tube. Due to the slightly curved surfaces of the squeezing blocks and the increasing gap, a squeezing pressure moves further up the toothpaste tube in a direction from the sealed end to the opening end.

A cradle positions a section of the hose so that its cross-sectional area can be compressed by the hinged rotation of a pinchcock toward the cradle in response to a pedal force to reduce the rate of flow. The compressed cross-section expands in response to the internal fluid pressure of the hose upon release of the pedal force to increase the rate of flow. A latch secures the pinchcock in an angular orientation relative to the cradle to maintain the reduced cross-sectional area. A lever is pedal operated to disengage the pinchcock from the latch.
