  • Patent number: 6109594
Abstract: The invention concerns a device making it possible to firstly limit the dynamic or static force applied to a linear electric jack with a reversible screw/nut system, and secondly translation-disengage the screw of the jack. This device is formed of an element (2) integral with the screw (7) of the jack and an element (1) integral with the activated load and interconnected by a friction system (3). The force applied on the screw (7) tends to make the latter rotate inside the screw (8) of the jack. This rotation is stopped by the friction system (3) until the latter slides and separates the elements (1) and (2). The screw (7) then rotates with respect to the element (1) which limits the force. The replacement of the friction element (3) by a coupling makes it possible to externally control the rotation and translation of the screw (7). The end of travel stops (13) secured to the screw (7) rotate with this screw whilst retaining their characteristics.

Abstract: The jack apparatus includes a jack having a tubular housing that is elevated by jack screw mechanism. Arm members are mounted to the tubular housing to extend transversely outwardly in opposite directions for mounting a chain to permit adjustably varying the length of chain end portions extending away from the arm members that are to be attached to the object to be elevated. A tire is mounted to the tubular housing for abutting against the object that is to be elevated, the tire extending vertically above and below the arm members, and transversely further outwardly of the tubular housing than the tire. The tire has a vertical annular surface for abutting against the object.

  • Patent number: 5664762
Abstract: A screw jack (20) includes a stand (21) which houses a side gear (58) which, when rotated, turns a bottom gear assembly (67). An inner screw (73) is connected to the bottom gear assembly (67) and thus turns therewith. Because of an interaction with an outer screw (77), rotation of the inner screw (73) initially causes a tube assembly (24) to move axially relative to a hexagonally shaped sleeve (23). A hex nut (81) is attached to the lower end of the tube assembly (24) to prevent rotation of the tube assembly (24). The nut (81) threadably engages the outer screw (77) and at one stage during the use of the jack (20), the nut (81) also engages a shoulder (82) of the sleeve (23) so that upon continued rotation of the screw (73), the tube assembly (24) and sleeve (23) move axially together. A load bearing assembly (25) is carried at the top of the tube assembly (24) and is adapted to be positioned under the frame or other component of a vehicle to be lifted.

  • Patent number: 5636705
Abstract: The scaffolding comprises a post having a plurality of vertically aligned and equally spaced studs protruding on one of its surfaces. A frame supporting a work platform can move along the post, a sleeve being attached to the frame for guiding it along the post. The sleeve, the frame and the work platform partially surround the post. A lifting apparatus, installed on the sleeve, comprises a rotatable endless screw which is parallel to the post and which has a peripheral and helical flange which bears on the studs. An engine, an electric power drill or a manual handle will rotate the endless screw via one or two speed reducers. The rotation movement of the endless screw will result in the axial displacement thereof along the post, carrying the frame and work platform along with it. Another embodiment of the invention comprises a work platform which is supported at both of its ends by a lifting apparatus movable along a post.

An elongate lift shaft is received coaxially within the drive shaft, with the lift shaft being driven in a longitudinal movement up and down within the drive shaft. At least two elongate, hollow stabilizer shafts are spaced outwardly from the drive shaft, with a longitudinal axis of each stabilizer shaft being substantially parallel with a longitudinal axis of the drive shaft. An elongate idler shaft is received coaxially within each stabilizer shaft, with each idler shaft being movable longitudinally within its respective stabilizer shaft so that the upper end of the idler shaft can move up and down relative to the upper end of the respective stabilizer shaft.

  • Patent number: 5542647
Abstract: A jack of the type having inner and outer legs and a screw for extending and retracting the inner leg relative to the outer leg. The screw is mounted on a base fixed to the outer leg for rotating and limited endwise movement between the upper and lower positions relative to the base such that the screw and inner leg can move downwardly to the lower position when the inner leg is out of ground engagement and the inner leg moves the screw toward the upper position when the leg engages the ground. A rotary drive member is mounted for rotation relative to the base about the axis of the screw and a transmission mechanism responsive to rotation of the drive member drives the screw at a high speed ratio when the screw is in the lower position and at a low speed ratio when the screw is in the upper position.

  • Patent number: 5398780
Abstract: An actuator suitable for use as an ejection jack for deploying an aircraft mounted ram air turbine is provided. The actuator utilizes a spring powered ballscrew operatively coupled to a centrifugally actuated brake in such a manner that the brake limits the speed of reciprocating movement of the ballscrew. The problems of fluid leakage and slow deployment at cold temperatures, often encountered in prior ejection jacks utilizing hydraulic dashpots for speed control, are thus eliminated. The actuator also includes a locking device for locking the actuator in either an extended or a retracted position. Features are also provided for attaching an external drive mechanism in a manner allowing the ballscrew to be utilized for resetting the actuator to an initial non-extended position.

  • Patent number: 5343581
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a hospital bed effects relative vertical movement of a base and a patient litter. The drive mechanism includes spaced, telescoping threaded screw assemblies, which are driven by a single electric motor through a train of gears having helical teeth oriented to offset inherent frictional forces of the screw assemblies. A support for the motor and a component of the drive train are made of electrically nonconductive materials to electrically isolate the motor, and are arranged to damp vibrations produced by the motor. Two coiled electrical cords extend between the base and patient litter, and are each received in a recess in the patient litter when the patient litter is adjacent the base. A sensor arrangement provides an electrical signal indicative of the relative vertical positions of the patient litter and base, and a manual drive arrangement is provided to permit the gear train to be manually driven.
