Patent number: 4815713Abstract: A ground sleeve adapted for positioning within a back filled hole and useful for receiving and supporting an upright, broad-faced, flexible fence post for quick installation or removal. The ground sleeve includes a rectangular tubular member which has an inner diameter width slightly larger than the width of the fence post and an orthogonal thickness of inner diameter slightly larger than the fence post thickness, as measured between opposing parallel planes contacting front and rearward faces of the fence post. A top opening is provided which is squared with respect to the tube axis and opposing closing structure is positioned at the bottom of the tube to impede entry of earthen material within the tube interior.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1988Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignee: Ametek, Inc.Inventor: David A. Patent number: 4815565Abstract: A crash cushion end treatment, comprising a reusable barrier apparatus to protect vehicles traveling along the roadway from fixed roadside obstructions is disclosed. The apparatus is attached to the fixed obstruction and comprises a linear array of deformable cylinders or vented bodies which are designed to attenuate the force of vehicle impact. A single cylindrical member is disposed at the front, or leading edge, of the barrier. The cylindrical member prevents vehicles impacting the barrier "head-on" from being launched over the barrier. Further, a plurality of overlapping fender panels are disposed along each side of the linear array of deformable cylinders. These fender panels are hinged to the barrier so that when the barrier is collapsed, or telescoped inwardly, by an impacting vehicle, the panels may hinge outwardly without being damaged or destroyed.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1986Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Inventors: Dean L. Sicking, Hayes E. Ross, Jr.

Patent number: 4800630Abstract: A releasable fencing apparatus is disclosed which allows a substantially rigid supported fencing structure a degree of freedom at the bottom in order to allow easy access to the area underneath the fencing apparatus for purposes of grass cutting or trimming. A number of releasable clips are provided to detach a lower portion of the fencing fabric from the support structure. Several hinges allow a lower portion of the fencing fabric to swing away from its normal vertical position and its support structure. The invention may be easily implemented on conventional fencing apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Inventor: Michael J. Bakalar

Patent number: RE32934Abstract: A flexible barrier element for a passageway defined by two spaced posts is held in a raised taut position to block the passageway by placement of a hand lever having a lost motion connection with the barrier element in a level position of engagement with a bracket fixed on one post. Swinging of the hand lever to a depressed position relative to the bracket on which it is pivotally mounted slackens the flexible barrier element and lowers it to a ground level position allowing unobstructed passage between the posts defining the passageway. A second bracket on the second post has a flexible barrier element attached to it.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Inventor: Richard M. Baines

Patent number: RE33037Abstract: A fenceliner for inhibiting growth of grass, weeds and other vegetation beneath and closely adjacent a fence so as to make cutting or trimming of such vegetation unnecessary, and for inhibiting passage of small animals across the border defined by the fence. The fenceliner can be provided as a coiled strip of thin flexible material such as plastic or metal. The thin material is uncoiled and rolled out along the length of the fence and is cut to fit around fence posts. Preferably the material is colored to closely simulate the coloring of the surrounding vegetation. A centrally located longitudinal recess in the strip receives the bottom of the fence panels. Symmetric legs extend outwardly and downwardly from the recess to cover the ground closely adjacent to the fence. The legs have sufficient spring tension to bias the recess against the bottom of the fence panels when the fenceliner is in position on the ground beneath the fence.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Inventors: Lawrence R.
