A propulsion system is effective to actuate the supports. A barrier extends between the supports at a mean first height that is effective to permit passage of a vehicle when the supports are compressed and supported by each support at a mean second height effective to impede passage of the vehicle when the supports are extended. When the supports are compressed, vehicles pass over the barrier unimpeded. When the supports are extended, the barrier impedes the motion of a vehicle travelling along the pathway. At least one deceleration cable mechanically couples the barrier to a brake system.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1999Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Inc.Inventors: John N. Publication number: 20010023940Abstract: The present invention is a decorative end cap which is mountable to the top portion of fence pickets. The decorative end cap is manufactured separately from the picket and is mountable to the top end of the picket after the picket fence has been manufactured to give the picket fence a more decorative appearance. The top cap consists of a substantially flat top portion, having a top surface, opposing sides and opposing ends. The top cap also has a bottom portion which is provided with a cavity, configured to receive the top end of the wooden fence picket. A decorative member is mounted on the top surface of the flat portion and extends upwardly from the flat portion between the opposing sides. The cap also has a mounting bracket, which is adapted to mount the cap on the top end of the picket.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2000Publication date: September 27, 2001Inventor: Lino-Gino Bottero

Patent number: 6279276Abstract: A protective system for overhead doors on loading dock platforms for use in connection with a pair of pipe bollards permanently erected at each of the sides and in front of the door. The system includes a pair of net securing devices each having a mounting bracket allowing the assembly to be attached to the door, a variable linkage, and a bollard collar for fitting over the existing pipe bollard when the door comes down. A spring loaded bracket in connection with the bollard collar and variable linkage allows a netting connected between the bollard collars to move for a distance until the bollard collar abuts the pipe bollard to preclude damage to the door.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Inventor: Paul James Knoll

Patent number: 6276869Abstract: A weed control plate (1) installed at the root of one of supports of various kinds so as to cover the ground around the root to prevent the propagation of weeds. The weed control plate (1) is a thin plate having a conical surface. The plate is provided in the center thereof with an opening (11) for passing the support. The plate has a single parting line (13) extending from the outer periphery to the inner periphery of the plate. Two edges of the plate which are divided by the parting line (13) are fastened so as to join together with bolts (30) and nuts (31), thereby firmly fastening the inner peripheral surface of the opening (11) to the outer periphery of the support. The conical surface (10) is curved convexly upward toward radially inward of the plate. The inner peripheral surface of the opening (11) has a curved surface (25) projecting inward over approximately the entire circumference.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1998Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Inventor: Kuniaki Yakushinji

Publication number: 20010013594Abstract: Disclosed is a covering designed to be attached to and along the bottom portion of chain-linked and other similar types of fencing in order to prevent grass and weeds from growing between the links. Produced in varying lengths from a rubber or plastic type material, the covering has an L-shaped profile that allows it to be placed along the bottom edge of the fencing resting on the ground and against the fence. The mowing strip portion of the L-shape guard that rests upon the ground extends out horizontally from the bottom of the fence serves a shield that will prevent plant growth along the fence line.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 1998Publication date: August 16, 2001Inventors: ALLEN R. Patent number: 6270058Abstract: A handrail/leaning rail includes a mounting system adapted to be attached to a wall and an elongated rail separate from the mounting system and removably attached to the mounting system. The rail has a handgrip portion having a top surface and undercut front and rear surfaces shaped for grasping by a user, the rear surface being positioned on the rail to be spaced apart from the wall. A safety blocking portion that is longitudinally coextensive with the handgrip portion and extends rearwardly from a lower base portion of the rear surface of the handgrip portion blocks a gap that would otherwise be left between the lower base portion of the handgrip portion and the wall. The rail also has a wall shield flange portion that extends upwardly from the safety blocking portion and is spaced apart from the rear surface of the handgrip portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2000Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Construction Specialties, Inc.Inventors: Howard J.
