  • Patent number: 6385929
Abstract: A building system comprising interlocking log-like construction members to be used with or without screw-like fasteners. Various real-sized structures such as cabins, play-houses and tool sheds may be formed by perpendicular arrangement of recessed surfaces formed in the log-like members. A fastening system allows semi-permanent attachment of adjacent log-like members using a flanged fastener having an axial threaded recess and an axial threaded extension. When two fasteners are axially aligned, the axial threaded extension of one fastener may be engaged in the axial threaded recess of the other. The fasteners extend through holes in the recessed surfaces of the log-like members and thereby secure adjacent log-like members together.

  • Patent number: 6386519
Abstract: The present invention comprises a post and rail fence comprised of a plurality of posts, rails, and clamps. The posts rigidly engage with the ground in a generally perpendicular fashion, at spaced apart intervals. The clamps interconnect the rails and the posts, through interconnected post clamp and rail clamp sections. The clamp interconnection is accomplished with a tensioning member that provides a variable clamping force and maintains the connection between the posts and the rails.

  • Patent number: 6305672
Abstract: A protective apparatus to reduce the likelihood that livestock, especially a horse or a cow, will have a limb trapped in the opening between two adjacent fence panels having upper horizontal elements and closely-spaced vertical riser elements. The apparatus includes a U-shaped spanning member that is received over and extends between the upper elements of adjacent fence panels. The apparatus also includes a tail depending from the spanning member and a pair of riser engaging members that extend outwardly on opposite sides of the tail member and in vertical spaced relation to the spanning member. The riser engaging members are sized and shaped to receive respective riser elements of adjacent fence panels.

  • Patent number: 6176472
Abstract: A connecting and covering member for a joint, as well as a handrail or the like embodying the same, wherein the connecting and covering element extends between and interconnects two contiguous aligned portions of the elongated structure. The connecting and covering element comprises a hollow body in the form of a sleeve that surrounds and interconnects adjacent ends of the elongated members. The sleeve is slotted longitudinally and has cutouts for shape matingly receiving a plate which is secured to both of the adjacent portions. On opposite sides of the slot and on opposite sides of the cutout, the connecting and covering member has holes through which fasteners pass, to secure the assembly together.

  • Patent number: 5961242
Abstract: A novel bracket assembly for slidably mounting beams such as rails upon a column such as posts and for interconnecting abutting beams is disclosed for forming a continuous support frame for fencing and fence-like systems. The bracket assembly comprises identical first and second bracket components each having a pair of opposed, spaced-apart side walls joined by a web defining a collar for slidably engaging the post therebetween, opposed sleeve side walls defining a split sleeve for receiving an end of a beam therein, each collar having a recess extending from the center-line of the sleeve, and clamping and securing the sleeve side walls and collar side walls towards each other to secure the beam to the bracket and to clamp the bracket to the rail, whereby inversion of the second bracket component relative to the first bracket component on a column will nest the recesses of the bracket components together and align the sleeves at about the same height on a column.

  • Patent number: 5882001
Abstract: A picket fence is formed by a plurality of posts having vertically spaced ribs on confronting surfaces for supporting the respective end portion of inverted U-shaped rails. The rails are provided with a plurality of longitudinally equally spaced vertically aligned apertures with each aperture having a tab portion of the U-shaped rail bight portion projecting into the aperture. A like plurality of pickets are cooperatively received by the respective aligned apertures, with each picket having a pair of transverse longitudinally spaced slots in its wall cooperatively nesting a respective tab projecting into each slot. An inverted L-shaped spring steel clip enters the respective aperture on that side of the post opposite its slot to engage upper and lower surfaces of the bight portion of the respective rail adjacent the aperture, and lock the respective picket against movement relative to the rails.

  • Patent number: 5853166
Abstract: A handrail assembly which may be mounted on an existing handrail and used to aid children in ascending or descending a set of stairs. The handrail assembly includes a plurality of clamping devices which may be removably mounted on an existing handrail and which support a secondary handrail at a predetermined position below the existing handrail. The secondary handrail includes a plurality of telescopically mated rods which enable the overall length of the secondary handrail to be adjusted to coincide with the overall length of the existing handrail. Each section of the secondary handrail may be attached at a fixed position along the length of the secondary handrail to a clamping device. Additional clamping devices may be slidably mounted along the length of the secondary handrails to support any long expanses of unsupported sections of the secondary handrail. The clamping devices each have a pair of jaws which may be quickly mounted onto a variety of styles of existing handrails.
