Patent number: 8632056Abstract: A modular, temporary safety railing system that provides fall restraint protection during masonry wall construction projects includes a plurality of anchoring sleeves which are embedded in wet grout within a hollow cavity of a masonry block onto which posts and rail sections are assembled. The embedded pins receive and secure respective vertical posts via interconnecting locking pins comprising spring pin fasteners. A plurality of top and intermediate rail sections are attached to the vertical posts using connecting hardware designed to adjustable position said rail sections at an offset distance allowing additional courses of block to be added to the wall without interference from said railing system. As construction continues, the vertical posts are detached from the embedded sleeves and reused with newly installed sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2011Date of Patent: January 21, 2014Inventors: Michael L. Patent number: 8615964Abstract: An improved mounting structure for the posts of hand rail systems including a mounting arm member positioned within a sleeve monolithically formed within the inner chamber of the post. The sleeve includes a slit that allows for the outflow of water, thereby limiting corrosion and degrading of the post and mounting structure. A series of nubbed projections create grooves within the surface of the sleeve, to secure the mounting arm into the sleeve in a strong manner. A secure fit limits the amount of liquid trapped within the sleeve reducing corrosion. The mounting arm has smaller dimensions, reducing the chances that the arm comes into contact with support rods embedded within the concrete during installation. By avoiding contact with the support rods, concrete spalling is dramatically reduced, adding to the lifetime of the rail system.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2009Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Poma & Sons, Inc.Inventors: Frank Poma, Jason F. Patent number: 8579263Abstract: An adjustable baluster assembly for mounting in a fence section comprises a first baluster and a second baluster. The first baluster is mounted to the second baluster such that an angle of the first baluster with respect to the second baluster is adjustable. A method for assembling a fence section comprises providing an adjustable baluster assembly comprising a first baluster and a second baluster, adjusting an angle of the first baluster with respect to the second baluster, and mounting the baluster assembly between a horizontally extending upper rail of the fence section and a horizontally extending lower rail of the fence section.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2010Date of Patent: November 12, 2013Assignee: Alpa Lumber Inc.Inventor: Gabriel Petta

Publication number: 20130292621Abstract: In certain embodiments, a fence system includes a rail having a first surface having one or more apertures. The rail also includes second and third surfaces opposing one another, the first, second, and third surfaces of the rail forming a channel. The second surface and the third surface of the rail have first and second lips, respectively, the first and second lips extending into the channel. The fence system section also includes one or more pickets inserted through corresponding apertures of the first surface of the rail. Each picket has a first connection region located substantially in the channel formed by the first, second, and third surfaces of the rail such that the first connection region is substantially prevented from passing through the corresponding aperture in the first surface of the rail or between the opening defined by the first and second lips of the rail.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2013Publication date: November 7, 2013Inventors: John F. Publication number: 20130284997Abstract: A mounting for a support post of a safety system has a cylindrical stem to be removably received in a cylindrical socket of an anchor device to be secured to a structure, and a connector enabling connection to the support post of the safety system. The connector is articulated with respect to the cylindrical stem to be adjustable over a range of attitude orientations with respect to the cylindrical stem and a securing device secures the connector at a specific attitude orientation with respect to the cylindrical stem. The mounting may be used in a safety guardrail system for working at height, with a vacuum anchor and a support post to which the guardrail is mounted. The support post is mounted to the vacuum anchor by the articulated mounting to enable the orientation angle of the support post to be adjusted with respect to the anchor device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2013Publication date: October 31, 2013Inventors: Timothy Bissett, Andrew Beaman

Publication number: 20130248793Abstract: A safety stanchion includes a support base having a vertically extending generally cylindrical post which in turn includes an upper end supporting a belt reel. Within the belt reel, a belt spool having a quantity of flexible belt wound thereon is supported for rotation and spring biased toward a belt rewound configuration. A connector is supported on the outer end of the belt facilitating the withdrawal of a belt portion against the spring force for connection to an adjacent cooperating safety stanchion. The belt reel further defines a plurality of slots each configured to receive corresponding connectors of adjacent safety stanchions to form a pathway or guide for persons within the area. The vertical post is formed of a clear material and a message sleeve bearing a visible message such as direction information or advertising is received within the post.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2012Publication date: September 26, 2013Inventor: David Bar-or
