Abstract: A system and method for aerating and mixing wastewater that includes fine bubble diffusers located at least partially below a large bubble mixer. At least a portion of the gas discharged from the fine bubble diffusers is captured by the large bubble mixer and is reused by the large bubble mixer to form and release intermittent large bubbles. Prior to being captured by the large bubble mixer, the gas discharged by the fine bubble diffusers can aerate the wastewater. The large bubble mixer includes an accumulator that, upon becoming filled with gas, generates and releases a large bubble. Upon discharge from the large bubble mixer, the large bubbles generated therein may separate into a plurality of coarse bubbles for providing additional oxygen transfer and mixing of the wastewater. The system may include supply lines for supplying gas only to the fine bubble diffuser.

Abstract: An aeration system has aerators that remain generally full of air when the supply of pressurized air is turned off or vented. Water does not reach the bubble discharging holes of the aerator, which are kept from plugging. The aerator has a body with a hole through a wall of the body to discharge bubbles. The hole is surrounded by a skirt at the wall of the body. The skirt extends to below the elevation of the hole. The aerator body is connected to a source of pressurized gas through an open bottomed chamber. An opening between the aerator body and the inside of the chamber is located below the elevation of the hole. When the supply of gas is off, water enters the chamber and possibly the skirt. However, the water can only rise until it has reached the skirt and the opening, both of which are below the hole, and the entire aerator body is kept dry. Aerator fouling is reduced, and the aerator begins to produce an even flow of bubbles quickly when the supply of gas returns.

Abstract: An air stripper in the form of an submerged gas evaporator or a submerged gas reactor that includes a vessel, a gas delivery tube partially disposed within the vessel to deliver a gas into the vessel and a contaminated liquid inlet that provides a contaminated liquid to the vessel at a rate sufficient to maintain a controlled constant level of process fluid within the vessel. A weir is disposed within the vessel adjacent the gas delivery tube to form a first fluid circulation path between a first weir end and a wall of the vessel and a second fluid circulation path between a second weir end and an upper end of the vessel. During operation, gas introduced through the tube mixes with the process fluid and the combined gas and fluid flow at a high rate with a high degree of turbulence along the first and second circulation paths defined around the weir, thereby promoting vigorous mixing and intimate contact between the gas and the process fluid.

  • Patent number: 8308143
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for stirring a liquid in a reactor and for injecting a gas into the said liquid in order to form a gas-liquid dispersion, comprising a) a drive device (1) positioned above the reactor, provided with a vertical output shaft (2) fitted at its lower end with at least one axial flow rotor (4) immersed in the liquid, b) means for introducing gas (3 and 7) above the axial flow rotor (4), c) a deflector (5) placed above the axial flow rotor (4) preventing the gas-liquid dispersion from rising, and d) a deflector (6) placed below the axial flow rotor (4) converting the axial flow of the said axial flow rotor into a radial flow. This device may be used in shallow basins.

  • Patent number: 8286951
Abstract: An air injection system for aerating well water with a stream of air and having, a water circulation conduit extending down into the well, an aeration chamber extending upwardly within the well from the circulation conduit, at least one air and water discharge opening adjacent an upper end of the aeration chamber, a support disposed to support the aeration chamber at a predetermined depth in the well, and, an air compressor and a hose connected to supply air to a lower region of the aeration chamber, thus causing upward flow of air and water in the aeration chamber thereby inducing upward flow of water through said water circulation conduit from the bottom of the well to the aeration chamber.

  • Patent number: 8246724
Abstract: In a method for air treatment in a display cabinet for the storage and/or display of objects, whose walls, floor and roof structure more or less enclose the inside space of the display cabinet and in which a forced inflow of air from an air delivery system connected to the inside space (1) of the cabinet maintains a slight excess pressure compared with the air outside it, the said airflow passes through suitable dust or gas filtration means before entering the cabinet and its air humidity is adjusted and/or controlled by means of a cooling device. After filtration, the airflow passes through a catalyser (8) present in a liquid (7), the air picks up moisture from the liquid and is rendered completely free from germs. In this manner and in a simple way, a completely germ-free atmosphere is produced inside the display cabinet. A display cabinet for implementing the method has a corresponding structure.

  • Patent number: 8182678
Abstract: An apparatus for treating liquid includes a tank having a water inlet for receiving water, a treated water outlet for outputting treated water and a flow path between the inlet and the outlet. An injection section of the tank is located along the flow path of the tank with an outlet toward a bottom of the tank. Ozonated liquid containing ozone microbubbles is injected through an injection manifold positioned within the injection section of the tank. The ozone microbubbles adsorb to impurities in the ozonated water. A separation section of the tank is positioned downstream of the outlet of the injection section. The separation section has a contact surface such that the ozonated water travels upward to contact the contact surface and such that at least a portion of the ozone microbubbles adsorb to the contact surface.
