Publication number: 20130069256Abstract: An aeration system has aerators that remain generally full of air when the supply of pressurized air is turned off or vented. Water does not reach the bubble discharging holes of the aerator, which are kept from plugging. The aerator has a body with a hole through a wall of the body to discharge bubbles. The hole is surrounded by a skirt at the wall of the body. The skirt extends to below the elevation of the hole. The aerator body is connected to a source of pressurized gas through an open bottomed chamber. An opening between the aerator body and the inside of the chamber is located below the elevation of the hole. When the supply of gas is off, water enters the chamber and possibly the skirt. However, the water can only rise until it has reached the skirt and the opening, both of which are below the hole, and the entire aerator body is kept dry. Aerator fouling is reduced, and the aerator begins to produce an even flow of bubbles quickly when the supply of gas returns.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 15, 2011Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: ZENON TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPInventor: Stephen Hugh GARRIOCH

Patent number: 8348247Abstract: A flexible tubing for fine bubble aeration is provided with an air passageway defined in part by an upper portion and a lower portion. The tubing can be made of a uniform weighted material with more material in the lower portion than in the upper portion. This makes the tubing self-orienting, in that it will tend to orient itself with micro-slits along the upper portion facing upward and the lower portion facing downward when submerged in a body of water. An automated, one-stage production line converts raw tubing material to a finished tubing product without the need for separate processing. A method of coiling the tubing places the micro-slits approximately 90° away from the surface of a spool hub, thereby avoiding a longitudinal arch in the tubing and ultimately preventing roll-over and improper slit orientation after installation in a water body.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2012Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Air Diffusion Systems, A John Hinde CompanyInventor: John N. Publication number: 20100181263Abstract: The invention relates to a method for stirring and/or aerating fluids, particularly sewage, having the following cyclically repeated steps: aerating the fluid by means of an immersed aerator for a predetermined first period of time (t1) using an aeration device (1) disposed on a carrier (3, 43) designed as a floodable hollow body (2, 42), the hollow body (2, 42) being flooded and air being brought into the fluid by the aeration device, whereby the potential for nitrification is created in the fluid; stirring the fluid by means of the immersed aerator for a predetermined second period of time (t2), the air infeed by the aeration device (1) being throttled or turned off, and previously flooded hollow body being evacuated in order to fill the hollow body (2, 42) with gar or air, the immersed aerator assuming the function of mixing device in which fluid rises upward, thus mixing the fluid, where in the potential for denitrification is created in the fluid; and an immersed aerator.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2008Publication date: July 22, 2010Applicant: BIOWORKS VERFAHRENSTECHNIK GMBHInventors: Stephan Buch, Peter Kröner

Patent number: 7758025Abstract: An apparatus for air treatment includes at least one reservoir which can be filled with a liquid, an air-conveying device and a device which ensures that for the treatment of the air to be treated the air comes into contact with at least a part of the liquid. A circulating device is provided, by which liquid in the reservoir is conveyed in a circuit out of the reservoir and back into the latter. For the purpose of sterilising the liquid, a device for mechanico-physical opening of cell membranes, for instance by electroporation or cavitation, is provided in the circuit. Such an apparatus can also be used for purifying exhaust air in a surface treatment installation.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2006Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Assignee: Eisenmann Anlagenbau GmbH & Co KGInventors: Werner Swoboda, Kersten Link

Patent number: 7744069Abstract: The invention relates to a device for gassing liquids, particularly waste water, including a gas supply line (1) and at least one gassing element (2), which has a longitudinal axis (L) and can be attached to the gas supply line in a positive manner. In order to simplify the mounting of the gassing element (2), the invention provides that the gassing element (2) has at least one fixing plate (8), which laterally projects relative to the longitudinal axis (L) and which serves to establish a non-positive connection with the gas supply line (1).Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2005Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: Invent Umwelt-Und Verfahrenstechnik AGInventor: Marcus Hoefken

Patent number: 7625491Abstract: An aeration system for a submerged membrane module has a set of aerators connected to an air blower, valves and a controller adapted to alternately provide a higher rate or air flow and a lower rate of air flow in repeated cycles. In an embodiment, the air blower, valves and controller, simultaneously provide the alternating air flow to two or more sets of aerators such that the total air flow is constant, allowing the blower to be operated at a constant speed. In another embodiment, the repeated cycles are of short duration. Transient flow conditions result in the tank water which helps avoid dead spaces and assists in agitating the membranes.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2008Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Zenon Technology PartnershipInventors: Pierre Lucien Cote, Arnold Janson, Hamid R.
