  • Patent number: 8132793
Abstract: An apparatus for atomizing a precursor liquid for vapor generation and thin film deposition on a substrate. The precursor liquid is atomized by a carrier gas to form a droplet aerosol composed of small precursor liquid droplets suspended in the carrier gas. The droplet aerosol is then heated to form vapor, producing a gas/vapor mixture that can be introduced into a deposition chamber to form thin films on a substrate. The liquid is introduced into the atomizing apparatus in such a manner as to avoid excessive heating that can occur or lead to the formation of undesirable by-products due to material degradation as result of thermal decomposition. The apparatus is particularly suited for vaporizing high molecular weight substances with a low vapor pressure that requires a high vaporization temperature for the liquid to vaporize. The apparatus can also be used to vaporize solid precursors dissolved in a solvent for vaporization.

Abstract: An improved venturi apparatus for the incorporation of air into a liquid. The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a funnel section, a cylindrical section, and a frusto-conical section. Lateral tubes extend from the cylindrical section so as to form an acute angle relative to the central axis of the cylindrical section, thereby preventing leakage of liquid out through the lateral tubes during use and subsequent handling.

Abstract: A device and a method for producing a fine liquid mist and injecting the said mist into a gas stream to capture and remove very fine particulate pollutants. The pressurized gas stream is passed into a droplet generator (20) into which the liquid is sprayed and atomised into a mist which captures particulates and then into a droplet separator (30) to produce a separated liquid/particulate mixture and a gas stream with a reduced concentration of particulates. The main application is the removal of fine particulates from vehicle exhaust streams. Optionally a degassing stage (90) is provided for the removal of residual gases and vapours. The preferred liquid to form the mist is water.

Abstract: A device for the mixing of a gas into a liquid comprises a hollow frustum shape housing having a central axis, extended from a small diameter fluid outlet end, defining a fluid outlet opening, to a large diameter end; a liquid inlet port positioned adjacent the large diameter end is formed in said housing which allows delivery of pressurized liquid into said hollow housing, and a helically cut conical member is positioned and affixed within the hollow center of the housing with its axis aligned with that of the hollow frustum shape housing such that fluid delivered into the housing forms a swirling motion around the outside of the conical member as it passes from inlet port to outlet opening. The housing has a gas inlet for delivery of gas to the fluid within the frustum shaped housing at a position adjacent to the fluid outlet opening as the fluid moves from inlet to fluid outlet opening.

Abstract: The invention is a fluid distribution device for coupling with a fluid distribution conduit or chimney for improving the distribution of downwardly flowing poly-phase mixture including at least one gas phase and at least one liquid phase, above at least one catalyst bed of granular solid catalytic material. The fluid distribution device for receiving the liquid and gas phases has one or more openings in the top and/or upper portion of its height through which a gas phase can enter and has a gas conduit that opens to a mixing cavity within the device. The fluid distribution device further comprises one or more lateral openings for liquid ingress. The lateral opening or openings allow the liquid to enter a liquid conduit that opens to the internal mixing cavity. The mixing cavity allows intimate contact between the liquid and gas phases. Therefore the flow distribution device of the invention provides improved tolerance for tray out of levelness.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a fluid mixer, a system for mixing fluids utilizing the fluid mixer, and a method of mixing fluids using the fluid mixer or the system for mixing fluids, and more specifically, to a compact static mixing device with no moving parts and capable of mixing any fluid, such as air, nitrogen gas, water, oil, polluted water, and the like. A first pressurized, incoming fluid is accelerated locally by a section reduction, is split into streams, and then is released into a second fluid found in a closed volume or an open volume after a period of stabilization. The directed and controlled first fluid slides along an insert up to directional and angled fins at a vortex creator where suction forces from a self-initiating vortex in an internal cavity draws in at least part of the first fluid to fuel the vortex.
