A power supply is coupled to establish a relatively positive electrical charge on the rotor and a relatively negative electrical charge on the wall of the housing. The charge causes electrolysis to occur within the fluid, which forms small low surface tension gas bubbles on the rotor and housing wall.

    Abstract: A rotary disk humidifier of the type that has multiple parallel spaced disks rotatably mounted in a water reservoir in a housing with controls for maintaining the water level in the housing to obtain an optimum wetted disk area above the water level exposed to air flow to achieve optimum humidification. At one theoretical extreme, the water level is at or above the center of rotation of disks decreasing the area of the disks exposed to free air flow through the housing. At the other theoretical extreme with the water level just at or slightly above the outer diameter of the disks, there is a grossly insufficient wetted area of the disk to approach the optimum area. Between those extremes there is a mathematical optimal range of the ratio inner wetted diameter of the disk Ri to the outside wetted diameter of the disk Ro (or the average outer diameter of the disk—the disk may not be circular) of about 0.30.

    Abstract: An apparatus for mixing gas and liquid is disclosed. The apparatus may have a plurality of blades rotated about a common shaft. The blades may have a forward portion, which cuts through a liquid, and a trailing portion, which forms the leading part of a gas cavity. The gas cavity is in communication with a gas inlet and the bulk fluid. As the blades pass through a liquid, a reduced pressure zone is formed immediately behind the blade. The reduced pressure zone allows air to be aspirated from the gas inlet into the gas cavity adjacent to the blade. Gas in the gas cavity is sheared into discrete bubbles and transferred to the liquid by the action of the trailing blade wake currents.
