  • Publication number: 20040091671
Abstract: The invention relates to a glass fibre-reinforced plastic-plate which is provided with an anti-slip coating, consisting of resin and sand, as well as a production process of such a plate. The process according to the invention is a continuous one and does not require manual production steps. Initially, for the production a resin is bonded (10) with glass-fibre mats to a glass fibre-reinforced laminate as base material (20) and heated. As is conventional, the plate (20) is covered on both sides with carrier films (11, 12). In the subsequent phase of cooling-down (13) the point in time is waited for in which the plate (20) is in actual fact partly gelatinized, but the surface which is supposed to be coated is not yet completely cured. In this stage the upper carrier film (11) is pulled-off and a premixed coating compound consisting of resin and sand is applied (18) from above onto the base material (20). Alternative to the application of a premixed coating material, the resin and sand can be applied separately.

  • Patent number: 6676868
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a separator for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell in which the specific resistance is small, and the coefficient of thermal conductivity and the gas shielding property are high and have high strength. The sintering material comprises a phenol resin coated to the surface of a powder of carbon, and the plate is a metallic plate having plating on both surfaces. After the metallic plate is arranged in a mold provided with grooves, the sintering material is filled to both sides of the metallic plate, and then they are heated and sintered. The separator for a fuel cell becomes homogeneous, and, as a result, the gas shielding property rises with high strength, because phenol resin has been uniformly distributed in the sintering material. Moreover, because oxides are not generated on the surfaces of the separator by sintering, the specific resistance will be relatively small.

Abstract: A high temperature, composite structure includes a blank of wire mesh material fabricated from drawn wire from a stainless steel rod. The drawn wire is annealed and mixed to create raw material. The mixed raw material is knitted to create the blank of wire mesh material, the blank of wire mesh material having voids formed therein. A dispersion comprising vermiculite as a binder is impregnated within the blank of wire mesh material. The dispersion substantially fills the voids of the blank of wire mesh material. A method of manufacturing the structure is further disclosed. Specifically, the method includes the steps of providing a blank of wire mesh material having voids formed therein, impregnating the blank of wire mesh material with a dispersion consisting of vermiculite, the dispersion substantially filling the voids, eliminating a water fraction of the dispersion, and pressing the impregnated blank of wire mesh material to a desired shape and density.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods for manufacturing large PTFE parts by compression molding followed by sintering. The method comprises layering modified and unmodified PTFE in a mold, and compressing the layers to form a preform part. Once the preform parts are formed, they are assembled such that the areas of preform parts which are to be bonded together are the modified PTFE sections. The parts are then sintered and the modified PTFE sections bond together creating a strong, durable, bond.

  • Patent number: 6503429
Abstract: A method of making a one-piece, unitary lid for a casket comprises providing tooling configured to produce a casket lid having a crown, a pie, a rim and a header, providing settable material, preferably a mixture of wood chips arid binder, from which to mold the lid, molding the settable material with the tooling and permitting the settable material to set. The tooling transmits a wood grain pattern into the settable material. The wood grain pattern of the lid is continuous when viewed rotated 180° about an axis perpendicular to the plane defined by the lid, located medially of the transverse extent of the lid and coinciding with the header end edge of the lid. Thus two such caps placed end-to-end have a continuous wood grain pattern extending from the head end of the casket to the foot end of the casket. Resin impregnated tissue paper is applied to the settable material prior to molding. The resin impregnated tissue paper conforms to the wood grain and conceals the wood chips.

Abstract: A method for fabricating fiber-reinforced composite structures, including centrifuge rotors, by resin transfer molding (RTM) is disclosed. The method involves loading reinforcing fibers into a mold and then injecting resin into the mold to coat the fibers to form the composite structure. Two types of reinforcing fibers are used—fabric preforms at the surfaces of the structure and chopped fibers at the interior of the structure. Also disclosed is a fiber-reinforced composite structure comprising a skin layer of reinforcing fabric, chopped fibers distributed throughout the interior of the structure, and epoxy resin that binds the fabric and chopped fibers together into a fiber-reinforced composite structure. The resin transfer molding method is especially useful for fabricating composite centrifuge rotors.

Abstract: Method of forming a fiber web (210) intended for use in absorbent products, such as sanitary towels, by air-laying fibers. Separate air flows containing fibers are fed to a number n of different mat-forming wheels (160, 170, 180), where n is a whole number which is at least 2. Separate web layers (161, 171, 181) are formed on each mat-forming wheel. The fiber web (210) is formed by virtue of said web layers being combined downstream of the mat-forming wheels to form a common fiber web which is imparted very great manufacturing accuracy by virtue of the manufacturing method. The manufacturing speed and thus the web speed can be very high, and the desired manufacturing accuracy at the web speed concerned is achieved by selecting a sufficiently great number n of mat-forming wheels. The invention also relates to a fiber web manufactured according to the method.
