Abstract: A method of replicating surface textures by providing a laminar, dimensionally stable, flexible mold having an impression of the surface texture to be formed on one side thereof, applying a layer of fluid casting material to the flexible mold, and partially curing the resinous material wherein the impression is transferred to the partially cured resinous material. The flexible mold and layer of partially cured resinous material are then secured to a recipient surface, and the material is fully cured, and the flexible mold removed, leaving a surface texture on the recipient surface.

  • Patent number: 5441684
Abstract: A method of forming a molded plastic package having an integrated heat sink, without forming mold "flash" on an external surface of the integrated heat sink during the molding process, is described. The method generally follows conventional fabrication steps for molded plastic packages, except that a protective layer, preferably formed of a water or chemically soluble paste, or a high temperature adhesive tape, is applied to the external surface of the heat sink prior to the formation of the molded plastic package. The protective layer prevents mold "flash" from forming between the external surface of the heat sink and an inner surface of the mold during the molding process, and after formation of the molded plastic package, acts to protect the external surface of the heat sink from scratches and/or contaminants.

  • Patent number: 5428891
Abstract: This invention relates to a method by which an electrical interconnect device is manufactured. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the geometric dimensions of the device and its necessary electrical characteristics are determined by reference to the components which the device is going to interconnect. An electrically conductive skin thickness, which will achieve the necessary electrical requirements of the application, is also determined. That conductive skin is then selectively formed over an electrically non-conductive core, which is constructed in accordance with the geometric requirements and electrical operating properties of the application, but which is deliberately undersized by the thickness of the skin. Thus, when the skin is formed over the undersized core, the skin thickness causes the final device produced by the process to meet both the electrical and geometric requirements of the application.

  • Patent number: 5413748
Abstract: A mold apparatus and method for forming encapsulated glass which includes the use of a plurality of mold sections 10 and 12 which, when closed, cooperate with a sheet 5 and at least one seal 25 to define a gasket forming cavity 35. When a gasket forming material is injected into the gasket forming cavity 35 and is allowed to at least partially cure, a gasket 2 is formed on at least a portion of the sheet 5 to produce a window gasket assembly 50. A seal 25 with an outwardly angled facing portion 27 defines an interior face 37 of the gasket forming cavity 35 and prevents leakage of the gasket forming material and the formation of flash on the sheet 5. In one embodiment of the invention, the mold section 12 is made of a resilient material and mold section 10 is made of a rigid material. In another embodiment of the invention, mold section 12 has positioned therewithin a rigid member 45 having a finishing surface 48 which cooperates with the seal 25 and the sheet 5 to define a gasket forming cavity 35.

  • Patent number: 5391331
Abstract: Tooling for facing a wall includes a plurality of cavities which are formed by four blades, each of the cavities corresponding to various brick sizes. Six lines of interconnected cavities are attached to a cross beam. Adjacent cavities and lines are spaced from another by a predetermined dimension. Unset settable building material is mixed with appropriate coloring and waterproofing agent and is applied to a wall to form an outer layer. The surface thereof is sponged to produce a brick like surface relief. The tooling is pressed into the outer layer to impress a pattern resembling brickwork. Unset material is sucked from the joint line space between adjacent cavities and the layer is allowed to set. Then, mortar is added to the joint line. Once the mortar has set, the final outer layer has a true brick finish that resembles a real brick wall. The unset settable material can be applied to damaged or wood walls so that a true brick finish can be given to a wall in a quick, simple and cost effective manner.

Abstract: A method for forming a glove attachment principally for the palm of an astronaut glove to enhance the gripping area of the palm without detracting from the flexibility and utility of the glove. The attachment is a composite construction formed from a layer of silicone rubber having an outer surface with a friction configuration and an another layer of silicone rubber in which a meta-aramid mesh fabric is embedded prior to curing. The method of construction involves the use of a mold with a friction configuration surface. A first layer of silicone rubber or sealant is disposed in the mold and allowed to set for an hour. A second layer of silicone rubber or sealant is layered over the first layer and leveled. A meta-aramid mesh fabric is embedded into the second layer and the composite is permitted to cure. When cured, a configured area of the composite construction is glued or stitched to the palm area of the glove.
