Publication number: 20020056938Abstract: The uneven surfaces of wood-based materials such as chipboard may be improved by applying a formable coating material, smoothing and/or modelling the coating material to achieve a smoother surface, and heating the coating material to form closed pores while maintaining the smoothed surface intact. Decorative and flexible layers may also be applied to such surfaces in this manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 1999Publication date: May 16, 2002Inventors: RAINER HASENKAMP, LOTHAR THIELE

Patent number: 6372164Abstract: A visual effect, such as a granite-look, is produced in a thermoplastic product by directly applying a sufficient amount of at least one color-containing thermoplastic resin system to the surface of an extruded sheet of a thermoplastic resin. The color-containing thermoplastic resin system is applied onto the extruded sheet after it emerges from the die and prior to it entering the rollstack.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1999Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: BASF CorporationInventors: James H. Bennett, Steve Wasson, Gary Kogowski

Publication number: 20020009940Abstract: A targeted elastic laminate material having different zones of tension across a width of a material roll and methods for making the same. At least two polymers or polymer blends having different set properties are used to produce varying tension zones across the material. The targeted elastic laminate material has elastic properties that provide improved fit characteristics to disposable personal care products, while maintaining a flat roll profile that allows the material to be easily processed at a high speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2001Publication date: January 24, 2002Inventors: Raymond Jeffrey May, James Marcus Carr, Michael Scott Brunner, Lavada Campbell Boggs, Hannong Rhim, James Russell Fitts,, Kenneth Michael Salter, Victor Charles Lang, Adrian Roy Eggen, Oomman Painumoottil Thomas

Patent number: 6287498Abstract: A method of manufacturing flexible belts from fibers. Fibers that form the flexible belt are soaked with a liquid elastomer. The liquid elastomer soaked fibers are formed into the shape of a belt, beneficially by wrapping the fibers around a mandrel. The belt-shaped and soaked fibers are then cured. Multiple layer flexible belts can be formed by soaking fibers with a first liquid elastomer, wrapping those fibers around a mandrel, and then curing the mandrel to form a belt layer. Then, fibers are soaked with a second liquid elastomers. Those soaked fibers are then wrapped around the mandrel/belt layer. The fibers soaked with the second elastomer are then cured, forming a belt having two layers. The formed belt is then removed from the mandrel. The fibers and liquid elastomer(s) are beneficially chosen to introduce desirable belt properties.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Edward L.
