Abstract: Multilayer polymeric shells for spas, bathtubs and shower enclosures having a textured and marbled surface layer. The shells are produced by forming by extrusion a multilayer polymeric sheet having a marbled appearing top layer, passing the sheet between rollers to impart a textured surface to the marbled top layer of the sheet, and thermoforming the sheets into the structural shells for spas, bathtubs and shower enclosures.

  • Patent number: 6689306
Abstract: A skin layer for covering a dash panel structure in overlying relation to an air bag cushion assembly. The skin layer is of a multi-layered construction including a top layer of virgin polymeric material forming a show surface of controlled predefined color across the vehicle dash panel and an underlying layer of regrind material formed from the scraps of material generated during molding and trimming of the dash panel covers. A tear seam may be scored across the underside of the skin extending into the underlying layer of recycled material in a desired break-out pattern for the air bag cushion. The skin layer may be disposed across an underlying layer of foam which in turn is disposed across a supporting panel structure.

Abstract: The present invention is the apparatus and method for producing a plastic sheet having a pattern produced in a layer therein. The plastic sheet is a single layer sheet or a multi-layer sheet. The pattern is produced by mixing two or more plastic extrudants together in a mixer. The pattern is visible in the layer containing the two or more plastic extrudants because an at least one of the plastic extrudants is at least partially transparent. The mixer used to produce the pattern includes a housing having an end configured to expel the mixture of the two or more extrudants through a plurality of outlets. The mixer further comprises a rotatable shaft and at least one projection coupled to the shaft and rotatable with the shaft, the at least one projection configured to orient the mixture of the two or more extrudants relative to the plurality of outlets in the housing. The mixer further comprising a thrust bearing configured to couple an end of the shaft to the housing.

Abstract: A colored polyolefin film is printed by digital printing techniques. The colored polyolefin film is formed by blending a coloring agent, such as a pigment or a dye, with a polyolefin, and forming a film from the blend by an extrusion process. Digital signals are supplied to a printer adapted to respond to such signals to print the colored film. Indicia may be placed on the surface of the colored film by electrostatic printing, thermal transfer printing or ink jet printing, especially with an ultraviolet (UV) curable ink jet ink. The colored polyolefin film may be a multi-layer film having an opaque, cavitated core layer and at least one colored skin or tie layer.

Abstract: An automotive trim product is made as follows. A single or multiple layer sheet is extruded so as to include at least one color pigmented and/or metallized layer therein. Optionally, a clear coat may be laminated to the sheet, or may even be coextruded therewith. In certain embodiments, a roughened surface texture may be embossed into a major surface(s) of the sheet prior to lamination. In other embodiments, a design (e.g., logo) may be silk-screened onto the clear coat layer prior to lamination. The sheet, after optional lamination, is then thermoformed into a three-dimensionally shaped preform or article via vacuum forming or the like.

  • Patent number: 6533979
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a pattern-through soap is disclosed, in which a pattern block is embedded into a soap and penetrates through the two faces of the soap. After the soap is used for a long time, the pattern remains clear. The method for embedding the pattern block in the soap is: feeding materials from a primary tube and a secondary tube; a flow dividing mold is installed at the bottom of the secondary tube and a dispatching tube is connected to the primary tube. The soap material of the secondary tube firstly flows through the mold at the bottom of the flow dividing mold and is squeezed to be formed as a strip shape soap material. Then, the soap material of the primary tube flows through the outer side of the flow dividing mold to enclose the patterned soap material. Then, the soap material is sent out from the shaping mold at the outlet of the mixing tube so as to be formed with a strip shape soap. Then, the soap can be cut according to the desired thickness.
