  • Patent number: 4453300
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing a swash plate assembly for use in a compressor, fluid motor or similar device in which a plurality of pistons are connected, by means of connecting rods, to a swash plate which drives (or is driven by) the pistons. A plurality of piston assemblies are made by casting the piston around one end of a connecting rod section which is formed with a ball thus providing a ball-socket connection therebetween. Mating spherical ends with through-bores to receive the piston connecting rod section are cast-in-place and captured in sockets within the swash plate. The connecting rod section of the pistons is mated to the through-bores of the mating spherical ends and are positioned in an appropriate fixture to a fixed final relationship. The connecting rod sections are secured to the sidewall of each through-bore by a means such as electron-beam welding to secure the overall length of the final assembly.

  • Patent number: 4372905
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of forming a pipe socket having a sealing ring (8) at the inner surface of the pipe socket wall. The sealing ring has a fastening portion (16) and a sealing portion (20) connected therewith. The sealing portion (20) is displaceable in the axial direction of the pipe socket to be able to take different positions therein in order to adapt to different tolerances. It is a problem that the sealing portion (20) because of its displacability is not adapted to constitute such a surface around which the pipe wall can be formed. In order to obviate this drawback the pipe wall is formed so that the sealing portion (20) is positioned outside the pipe socket during the forming operation, whereupon the sealing portion is folded into the pipe socket after the forming operation.

  • Patent number: 4269387
Abstract: A needle valve and a method of manufacturing the needle valve. The needle valve has a metal needle with a leading end that is elongated and tapered so as to provide carefully restricted fluid flow along the length of the tapered end. A portion of the needle is threaded so that the position of the tapered end may be adjusted by screwing the needle. A housing for the needle is manufactured by placing the needle into a mold. The housing is then injection molded around portions of the metal needle. The molded housing forms an inlet port around the tapered end of the needle and a collar around the threaded portion of the needle. An outlet port is molded adjacent to the tapered end and is in fluid communication with the inlet port of the housing. As the housing cools, the plastic shrinks thus conforming the inlet port to the tapered end of the metal needle and creating a hermetic seal around the tapered end. A plastic knob is also molded onto the opposite end of the metal needle.
