Into Injection Molding Process Patents (Class 264/37.33)
  • Patent number: 8764101
Abstract: A load bearing panel member having a first portion, a second portion, and an appearance surface portion is formed by injection molding such that the first portion includes a plurality of rib members forming a grid pattern on the first portion and another plurality of rib members extending toward the periphery of the first portion which may be non-orthogonal to each other and to the rib members forming the grid pattern. A tubular cavity may be formed within each of the non-orthogonal rib members by injecting a gas into the rib member during the molding process forming the panel. An appearance surface portion attached to the first portion and second portion of the panel member forms an integral hinge between the first and second portions of the panel member. The panel member may be configured as a floor panel of a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8229592
Abstract: The present invention uses a high-gain observer which contains the discrete-time arithmetic expressions derived from a mathematical model of an injection and pressure application mechanism in an electric-motor driven injection molding machine consisting of state equations and outputs an estimate of injection pressure, which is one of the state variables of the above state equations, by using a screw position signal and a servomotor current demand signal or actual motor current signal as inputs. The high-gain observer obtains the exact injection pressure estimate with very small time-lag without using a pressure detector. Thus the estimate of injection pressure fed by the high-gain observer can be adopted as a feedback signal of actual injection pressure for controlling injection pressure.

  • Patent number: 8221673
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing an injection molded panel member having a first portion, a second portion, and an appearance surface portion. The method includes placing the appearance surface portion of the panel member into a mold cavity. The mold cavity preferably includes a first chamber adapted to form the first portion of the panel member, and a second chamber adapted to form the second portion of the panel member. After the appearance surface portion of the panel member is inserted into the mold, molten plastic material and pressurized gas are injected into the first chamber of the mold cavity. After the molten plastic material is injected into the first chamber of the mold, molten plastic material is injected into the second chamber of the mold cavity. The molten plastic is then cooled until it solidifies. After the molten plastic is sufficiently cooled, the pressurized gas is vented and the panel member is removed from the mold.

  • Patent number: 8133417
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of shaped articles such as, for example, sheeting, films, tubes, bottles, preforms and profiles, having high transparency and low haze comprising immiscible blends of one or more thermoplastic polymers selected from polyesters, polycarbonates, and polyarylates, and a copolyamide or a transamidized, homogeneous blend of a least two polyamides. The components of the immiscible blend which have refractive indices which differ by about 0.006 to about ?0.0006. The small difference in the refractive indices enables the incorporation of regrind into the polymer composition to produce transparent shaped articles. These articles may have one or more layers and can exhibit improved excellent barrier properties and good melt processability while retaining excellent mechanical properties. Metal catalysts can be incorporated into the compositions to produce shaped articles having oxygen-scavenging properties.
