  • Patent number: 10703018
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for optimizing a match between the color of an in-line part manufactured by a plastic product production machine and the color of a reference part by adjusting the concentration of masterbatch in the mixture of raw material fed to the plastic product production machine. The optimization of the color is based on interlaced spectra of the in-line part and reference part obtained using the same spectrometer, thereby eliminating the requirement for high accuracy spectrometer calibration and allowing a controller of the system to determine the rates at which the base masterbatches are added to the raw material in real time on the manufacturing floor while the plastic product production machine is being operated to manufacture in-line parts.

  • Patent number: 8017060
Abstract: The invention describes a process for the preparation of a granular delivery system particularly useful for the controlled release of flavoring or perfuming ingredients. The process includes the steps of forming a concentrated, highly viscous emulsion of the active compound to be encapsulated, blending the latter with a hydrophilic polymer in an extruder and shaping it into a granular free flowing solid at usual storage temperatures. The process of the invention is particularly appropriate for the encapsulation of volatile molecules as it avoids any dehydration step before or after extrusion.

  • Patent number: 7727428
Abstract: A method for producing an optical recording medium, includes: filling a plurality of spaces with a liquid photosensitive material, wherein each of the plurality of spaces is surrounded by a surface of a sheet material and partition walls that are formed on the surface of the sheet material for separating a plurality of recording areas, and the surface of the sheet material has recessed parts at positions where the plurality of recording areas is to be formed, each of the recessed parts protruding and deformed to a back surface side of the sheet material so as to have a volume in relation to a volumetric shrinkage factor of the photosensitive material; and pressing a member having a substantially flat surface to a back surface of the sheet material to make the recessed parts substantially flat and heating and hardening the photosensitive material to form the plurality of recording areas.

  • Patent number: 7618820
Abstract: A system and method for determining the operating state of a curable composition utilizes an acoustic wave or signal transmitted into a container holding the composition. In one embodiment, characteristics of a reflected component of the acoustic signal are measured and correlated to pre-determined values indicative of one or more operating states, or degrees of curing, of the composition. In another embodiment, characteristics of a transmitted component of the acoustic signal are measured and correlated. The characteristics include, for example, the speed of sound through the curable composition or the attenuation of the acoustic signal reflected by or transmitted through the composition.

  • Patent number: 6264874
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the diameter of a clear extruded molten tube wherein the extruded tube contains a volume of a clear liquid and the level of the liquid is indicative of the tube diameter so the level rises as the tube diameter decreases. A light beam passing through the tube is refracted from a straight line path when the liquid level rises above the level of the beam. The refracting of the beam in turn triggers the introduction of air into the extruded tube to increase the diameter of the extruded, molten tube.

  • Patent number: 5766538
Abstract: In a method for quality control during production of concrete blocks by bringing a concrete mortar into an upwardly open hollow mold with a solid peripheral wall for forming at least one molded blank placed on a flat supporting surface, a thickness of a molded blank is determined contact-free for testing the dimensional stability. The volume of the molded blank is determined from the determined thickness and the cross-section of the hollow mold. The density is obtained from the weight and volume, which is a criteria for strength and resistance testing of the molded blank. Finally, the appearance of the molded blank is determined by at least one video camera and compared with the appearance of faulty molded blank to determine the molded blanks with surface errors. All results of the height, density and surface measurements can be used for control of the production arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5503780
Abstract: A method of continuously forming an integrally molded structure in a multiaxis rotational molding operation includes the steps of rotating a multisection mold assembly about at least three axes. A first freshly formed polymerizable mixture is flowed over surfaces of an enclosed mold cavity within the multisection mold assembly. The flowing of the first mixture over the mold cavity surfaces and formation of a first resin therefrom is monitored. A second freshly formed polymerizable mixture is flowed under pressure through an orifice into the mold cavity. A liquid stream of the second mixture is formed. The liquid stream is gelled as it advances through the mold cavity to form a continuous filament with structural integrity. The filament is contacted with the first resin formed within the mold cavity. The filament is distributed over the first resin in a preselected pattern. A third freshly formed polymerizable mixture is flowed over the filament pattern formed within the mold cavity with the second mixture.

  • Patent number: 5466404
Abstract: A device for molding foam products comprising upper and lower portions cooperable to form a foam mold defining a mold cavity therein. The upper mold portion has at least one vent hole therein. A mechanism for providing the mold cavity with an expandable foam during a filling cycle is also provided. The expandable foam reactively expands when provided within the cavity so as to be molded into the shape of the cavity during a foaming cycle. The foam approaches the vent hole while expanding within the mold cavity during the foaming cycle. At least one vent hole provides a passage through which air and reaction product gases introduced into the cavity as a byproduct of the reactive expanding of the foam can escape to atmosphere from the cavity during the foaming cycle. A sensing and signal generating assembly detects the presence of the foam at a predetermined proximity to the at least one vent hole during the foaming cycle and generates a signal in response to the detection.
