  • Patent number: 4853172
Abstract: A method of making tubular composite structures that simplifies vacuum bag sealing. The method comprises disposing a prepreg structure within a tool that has at least one hole. The prepreg is disposed adjacent a mandrel. The mandrel comprises an inner bag containing a solid filler core that comprises about 75% to about 95% of the volume of the inner bag. The hole is enclosed with a vacuum bag thereby forming a void space between said vacuum bag and said prepreg. The void space is evacuated. The vacuum bag applies a predetermined pressure to the inner bag thus causing the inner bag to apply a substantially uniform predetermined pressure to the surface of the prepreg. The prepreg is exposed to heat.

Abstract: A float switch assembly for selectively energizing and deenergizing a fluid pump or other electronic equipment responsive to the rise and fall of a fluid level within a reservoir and a method of manufacturing or assembling the float switch assembly. The assembly includes a hollow tube having an open end wherein a mercury tilt switch is fixed. A plurality of conductors covered with a non-conductive material extend within the tube open end and are connected to the switch so that a current path may be provided between the conductors responsive to the angle of the switch. Ridges are provided on the outer surface of the tube near the open end and, a float bulb is provided substantially surrounding the tube below the ridges and sealingly connected upon the ridges. A potting epoxy compound surrounds the switch and the conductors within the tube so that electrical contact with a fluid through the open end is prevented. • Patent number: 4818314
Abstract: A method for lining a high pressure pipeline with a tubular plastic liner. After depressurizing, purging and cleaning the pipeline is broken into discrete sections each of which is to receive a liner segment. The sections are reamed to remove obstructions which might damage the liner and a close-fitting liner segment is drawn into each section. Each liner segment is fixed at opposed ends of respective pipeline sections to prevent longitudinal movement of the segments. Bleeder holes are provided through the pipeline walls at opposed ends of each pipeline section. After the pipeline sections are reconnected to reform the pipeline, a relatively warm, pressurized fluid is pumped through the pipeline to radially expand each liner segment against the inner walls of the pipeline, thus evacuating the spaces between liner segments and pipeline sections by forcing air, water and other impurities through the bleeder holes.

  • Patent number: 4702877
Abstract: Concrete elements, such as blocks or bricks, are molded or cast by forming in a primary mold cavity a secondary mold made of a portion of a thermoplastic film which has been contacted with a flat heater surface to assure a uniformly heated film portion which is then sucked into the primary mold cavity without wrinkles and filled with concrete mix. The secondary mold with the concrete mix in it is withdrawn, for example, sucked out of the primary mold cavity well before any effective hardening of the concrete mix, so that curing and hardening takes place in the secondary mold outside the primary mold cavity. This early withdrawing is important because it avoids expansion of the curing mix in the primary mold, whereby removal from the primary mold is facilitated. Additionally, the early removal with the aid of the secondary mold assures a more efficient use of the primary molds which are used again while the hardening is still going on in the secondary mold.

  • Patent number: 4622196
Abstract: The invention provides that in inserting a resin impregnated liner into a pipeline or passageway and shaping same to the passageway surface, followed by curing of the resin to form a rigid lining inside the pipeline or passageway, there are placed in the passageway reinforcing circumferential coils or members which bond to the liner and provide extra resistance to compressive hoop stress.

  • Patent number: 4617077
Abstract: In producing hollow bodies by blow molding from thermoplastic material, a preferably tubular preform is firstly formed, and is then expanded within the blowing mold under the effect of an inert gas under high pressure, until it bears entirely against the inside surface of the blowing mold. Thereafter, a reaction gas such as fluorine is introduced into the hollow body under a considerably lower pressure, while the hollow body is still in the mold, to treat the internal surface of the hollow body to render it impervious to gas and/or liquid. After the reaction has elapsed, a flushing and cooling gas is introduced into the hollow body and is then removed from the blowing mold after the hollow body has sufficiently set.

  • Patent number: 4615464
Abstract: A container case includes a cover, a base and a hinge which pivotally joins the cover and the base on a corresponding side of each. The cover, base and hinge are formed by blow molding. The cover and base are double-walled in construction and identical so that they can be formed from the same mold. Each of the cover and base includes cylindrically-shaped, hollow extensions which form portions of the hinge. When the case is assembled, alternate hinge portions of the cover and base are aligned end-to-end along a common axis and cooperatingly mate to form the full hinge. The hinge is drilled to form openings in the end surfaces of the mating hinge portions which communicate with the interior, hollow areas of the hinge portions to form a single bore through the entire axial length of the hinge. A polyethylene pin is received by the hinge bore to interlock the individual hinge portions.

Abstract: To provide hollow plastic bodies, e.g. bottles, with an inscription, a sheetlike object (23), e.g. a label, is pressed at least in part against an unfinished piece (26) while still being in deformable condition. This unfinished piece (26) is then brought, together with the preliminarily attached label into a blow mould (15). In blowing the bottle (26') the label (23) is strongly pressed against the bottle wall, because the label is held by the inner wall (31) of the blow mould.

  • Patent number: 4601476
Abstract: A heat cured exhaust seal, adapted to be interposed between a pair of confronting pipes in sealing relationship therewith, is formed of wire mesh having openings between the wires thereof and a mixture of metallic fibers, non-metallic filler, a thermally stable lubricant and resin binder, which mixture surrounds the wires and substantially fills the openings in the mesh and forms the seal. The method of forming the seal includes placing a preform of wire mesh into a die cavity, forming a powder mixture of metallic fibers, non-metallic filler, a thermally stable lubricant and a resin binder, placing the powder mixture into the die cavity, pressing the wire mesh and powder mixture to the final size and shape of the seal and curing the seal at an elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4596109
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a tube including a base, a pair of legs secured to the ends of the base, and a holder base attached to the base. A tube holder for holding the tube is connected to the holder base. The tube holder has a structure defining a pair of diametrically opposed openings. A pair of soldering irons is oppositely secured with respect to each other in proximity to the top of the pair of legs. Each soldering iron has a hot end that generally registers with one of the opposed openings such as to be in close proximity to the tube being held by the tube holder in order to soften the material of the tube in the area contiguous to the openings. Power is conducted and supplied to each of the soldering irons. Vacuum is drawn on top of the tube to suck or pull inward the tube in the spots being softened from the heat of the pair of soldering irons.
