  • Patent number: 4769206
Abstract: In a blow mould firstly a convexly formed bottom is blown. An intermediate region lying between an axially displaceable bottom mould and the blow mould bears on mould portions which on introduction of the bottom mould are pivoted back for turning back the bottom region to form a stand ring and release the path for the bottom mould which is finally positioned on the blow mould so that a closed mould cavity is formed on which the transformed bottom region can be reliably applied by blow pressure.

  • Patent number: 4704243
Abstract: A container (30d) of polyethylene terephthalate or similar thermoplastic material has a container body (32d), a mouth portion (37d) and a central bottom part (34d). The central bottom part consists of chiefly amorphous and/or thermocrystallized material and forms a bulge directed towards the interior of the container. A ring-shaped or band-shaped standing surface (36d) is arranged adjacent the transition of the bottom part into the container wall (32d). Adjacent to the standing surface the container has a circumferential area of material (35d) which by stretching and/or reshaping has undergone flow and by heating has acquired built-in stresses which tend to contract it. The surrounding circumferential area of material prevents the inward bulge of the central bottom part from straightening out and/or turning inside out when the pressure in the container is increased and/or when the temperature of the container material is raised.

In an axial section through the preform, the contour length substantially corresponds to the contour length in an axial section through the final container. • Patent number: 4623506
Abstract: A method is presented for forming couplings from blanks made from lengths of extruded plastic pipe, to join pipe together. The blank is cut from the length of extruded pipe and heated to the thermoplastic point. The heated blank is mounted between two mandrels which have a slight taper toward the ends, which are beveled. The ends of the mandrels are brought together inside the blank at a uniform rate and force. The pressure between the ends of the mandrels causes a bulge in the blank. A split die clamps around the blank at about the bulge, causing the bulge to collapse and forming a ridge in the inside surface of the blank. Coolant circulates in the mandrels and cools the inside surface of the blank. The mandrels are then withdrawn, leaving the formed blank in the split die.

  • Patent number: 4584158
Abstract: A method and a device for production of a temperature-stable, biaxially oriented container of thermoplastic material. In a first moulding stage a blank (40) is placed in a blow mould (12) after which a mandrel (15) extends the blank in its axial direction to a length exceeding the axial length of the future container. The length of the stretched material, in an axial section through the stretched blank, is then reduced at a predetermined temperature, and the reduction being made to a profile length substantially agreeing with the profile length for corresponding material portions in an axial section through the future container. In a second moulding stage the stretched blank is expanded to abut against the walls of the mould. The expansion takes place at a point in time for and/or at a speed allowing the reduction of the length of the stretched material, due to shrinkage to have time to be concluded before the material comes into contact with the walls of the mould.

  • Patent number: 4409176
Abstract: An article (11) of thermoplastic material is moulded from a parison (10) in which certain parts (17,16) of the parison are re-formed while other parts (13,12,20) retain their shape. A difference in pressure is applied to the wall of the parison during the re-forming process. Material in the parison is also moved in the direction of those parts of the parison which are to be re-formed, whereby attenuation of the material may be avoided entirely, if so desired, also in those parts which are to be re-formed. The invention enables the parison for a bottle to be re-formed to an extent which is small by comparison with the thickness of the material, for example the so-called "neck support" ring and the so-called "pilfer proof" ring, starting with a tube of oriented material. In a device for the application of the invention the elements (22,21,25) are in contact with the parts (13,12,20) of the parison.

  • Patent number: 4378328
Abstract: The invention sets out a method and apparatus of forming a chime projecting radially outwardly of a blow molded hollow member. The chime is formed immediately after the blow molding of the hollow member by forming a radially outwardly projecting channel-shaped part in the side wall of the hollow member. The surfaces of the channel-shaped part are moved toward each other to form a welded connection at the radially inner end of the channel-shaped part. The movement of the channel-shaped part to form the chime is effected by telescoping slides which move axially at different stroke speeds and at different stroke lengths. The radially inwardly most disposed slide moves farthest and faster so as to produce a rolling movement of the channel-shaped part as the chime is formed. The resulting chime is integrally formed from the material of the hollow member and includes at least an outer wall extending circumferentially around the hollow member and a side wall to which the outer wall is welded at its inner radial end.
