Abstract: A grained and foamed plastic article is fabricated by forming foamed plastic grains which are then covered with coating layers with a color different from that of the grains. The coated grains are then formed into a desired shape by heating them under pressure. The grained pattern formed thereby includes clear grain boundary lines which enhance the esthetic effect of the formed article.
Abstract: An apparatus for making multi-sectioned and multi-colored products having a predetermined geometric or other shape from different slurry mixtures requires a carrier with a predetermined sized and shaped peripheral wall optionally used with a flat or a contoured support surface, the carrier has; a latticed grid formed by intersecting and interconnected members which define random openings, and at least one or more dividing blade slots so connected in the carrier that the latticed grid is divided into spaced slurry receiving sections, and dividing blades adapted to be removably positioned and repositioned in said dividing blade slots provide means for alternatively and selectively isolating the respective spaced slurry receiving sections so that different slurry mixtures can be poured into each of the isolated spaced slurry receiving sections to harden therein about the carrier to form a furnished integral product.

Abstract: In a process for the production of smooth surfaced parts, a paste material, which includes paste or granule pieces which are coated with added pigment and then pressed back together, is applied, in the form of an extrusion or a coating, to a substrate. The extrusion or coating is subjected to a first, incomplete hardening, after which it is no longer flows freely under its own weight. The surface layer, containing added pigment, is then removed from a surface to be used. This surface is subsequently smoothed, and the hardening of the coating to form a hard material is completed. The smoothing and the completion of the hardening can occur in the same processing step as a shaping for the formation of separable shaped parts. The substrate can be inseparable from the hardened coating. The surface layer, containing added pigment, can be removed by mechanical means, solvents or abrasion by a suspension in liquid or air, if appropriate in the presence of ultrasound.
Abstract: Method for the production of building elements preferably brick facings by granulation of a mixture of 40-60% by weight of cement, 60-40% by weight of aggregate, 0.5-2% by weight of thickening agent such as carboxymethylcellulose and preferably coloring agent or one or more additives and water in an amount of 8-17% by weight based on the dry matter of the mixture, hot pressing the granules under a pressure of 50-100 kg/cm.sup.2 and at a temperature above 100.degree. C. to form single elements or a string, and cutting the string into single elements, and storing the elements in a humid atmosphere until a considerable setting of the cement has taken place. The method is considerably simpler and quicker than the known methods for the production of brick facings.
Abstract: Dissociated lignocellulosic material produced by a process of explosive depressurization is molded into products of widely varying densities. Abstract: The process, conducted completely under vacuum, provides that a material of any kind (marble, stone or material of other nature) of variable particle size is introduced, together with a binder (organic or inorganic) into a mixer (2) and then, after having achieved the complete homogeneity of the mixture, is discharged in a convenient manner into a mouldbox (1) which is then transferred to the interior of a press (6) where the beam (8), provided with vibrators (10), subjects it to a combined action of pressure and vibration of the mass which the mixture in volume to result in blocks suitable to be cut into slabs or into blocks of lesser dimensions according to need.
Abstract: Cultured onyx, cultured marble, and like mineral-appearing products are provided, as well as intermediates and components and methods therefor through the combination of a locally discontinuous phase comprising a synthetic organic resin portion hardened to a predetermined hardness and a visually distinguishable continuous phase comprising a synthetic organic resin portion separately hardened to the predetermined hardness with the discontinuous phase intimately distributed therein, to form shaped structures having surfaces simulative of onyx, marble, or like naturally occurring mineral in appearance, which surfaces are uniformly polishable in phase undifferentiated relation.
Abstract: In production of artificial material for keys of musical instruments from two or more sorts of casein compositions of different colors, an oriented sheet including linear bodies made of at least one sort of casein composition and arranged in a given orientation is subjected to heat pressing followed by folmalin hardening in order to develop flowing deep stripes and massy impression on the product very close to natural ivory.
Abstract: A process for the production of patterned tiles from thermoplastic synthetic resins includes the steps of forming a length of crude sheet stock by compressing unicolored and/or differently colored or multicolored particulate material of thermoplastic synthetic resin; cutting off crude sheets from the sheet stock; punching segments out of the crude sheets; combining the segments from at least two crude sheets of differing colors into a panel so that the segments complement one another, and thereafter press-molding the segments to form an intarsia tile with the use of pressure and heat so that the segments are welded together along joints formed therebetween.

Abstract: An injection molding machine having a barrel and a reciprocating and rotatable screw disposed therein. A combination heat transfer and stratification device is disposed between the screw and the outlet of the barrel. The device includes a generally tubular portion having radially outwardly extending ribs. The ribs are in contact with the inner wall of the barrel. Heating means supply heat to the portion of the barrel containing the device and heat is transmitted through the rib portions. A process is disclosed whereby plastic is partially melted in the screw section and then stratified for final melting and thereby reduces mixing to provide a mottled appearance or plastic parts containing long fine filaments such as fine wires.
Abstract: A shaped washing agent based on colored soaps and/or synthetic detergents comprising a plurality of individual colored particles of soap and/or synthetic detergent having a size range of 1 to 20 millimeters, so distributed that they adjoin one another with sharply defined boundries, said boundries being substantially free of occluded gas, to give at least a mosaic-like appearance to at least part of the surface of said shaped washing agent; and the process of producing said shaped washing agent by compressing the individual particles in the substantial absence of gas between said particles.

Abstract: A molding system for producing articles of mottled appearance includes a plasticizing unit having an inner bore which communicates with a mold cavity. A feed screw is mounted within the bore and is connected to fluid-actuated motors for rotary and translational movement within the bore. A spreader device is positioned in a heated part of the bore ahead of the feed screw. The screw is rotated to feed and soften molding materials of diverse coloration and is subsequently translated to push the materials through the spreader device such that final plasticization occurs. A bridging conduit is provided between the rotary and translational motors to divert a controlled amount of fluid from the latter to the former during a pushing operation, to rotate the screw forwardly at a controlled rate or to hold pressure on the screw to prevent backward rotation or to limit the amount of backward rotation.
