  • Patent number: 11306793
Abstract: A torque adjustment mechanism is provided for use with a torsion spring. The torsion spring is a coil spring having a plurality of helical coils that define a hollow core. A torque adjuster is positioned in the interior of the hollow core of the coil spring. The torque adjuster has a circular collar on one end and a securing flange on the other end. The circular collar is designed to fit into the hollow core of the coil spring. A clamp is positioned over the exterior of the coil spring in alignment with the circular collar. The clamp secures the coil spring to circular. The position of the collar in the spring defines the number of the coils that are active and establishes the level torque provided by the torsion spring.

Abstract: The present invention relates to dual-spring assembly that may be employed in cooperation with a damper unit to form a shock absorber. Further, the dual-spring assembly includes two compression springs arranged in series and each having selected, but different spring rates. The first spring primarily absorbs the energy of applied loads that are below a first amplitude or threshold of applied load. Once the applied loads exceed the first amplitude of applied load, the dual-spring assembly operates with an effective spring rate to absorb the energy of applied loads that exceed the first amplitude of applied load. After a second spring of the dual-spring assembly achieves a desired amount of deflection, the first spring continues to absorb energy from the applied loads.

  • Patent number: 7096577
Abstract: A firing mechanism of an explosively actuated tool for driving a fastener into a substrate includes a cocking rod and sear for entraining the firing pin with the firing pin being releasable on cocking by rotation of the sear. The cocking rod and sear form a structure subject to an axial and rotational bias by a coil spring anchored at one end to the structure and at the opposite end to a mounting which during assembly of the mechanism is rotated to apply torsional loading to the spring and is then locked into a housing of the mechanism in an angular orientation in which torsional loading is maintained in the spring.

  • Patent number: 7080829
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for holding one end of a helical spring and adjusting the tension of the spring. It comprises a plate (P1) provided with two series of holes (12, 13) spaced apart by a distance approximately equal to the diameter of the turns of the spring. The holes of one series are offset with respect to those of the other series. The plate (P1) is provided with a gripping and holding device (5, 8). The gripping and holding device comprises a threaded rod (5), one end of which is provided with a holding means (8). The threaded rod (5) engages in a tapped hole (15) integral with said plate (P1). A half-cylindrical wall (11) permits the passage of the threaded rod (5).

  • Patent number: 7025343
Abstract: In an adjusting method for remedying the coil pitch tolerance and fatigue deformation of an adjustable helical spring, an adjusting mechanism is mounted at one end of the casing for the adjustable helical spring for changing the precompression or the pretension of the helical spring to thereby remedy the coil pitch tolerance and fatigue deformation thereof, and rotating a rotatable element mounted in the casing and connected to one end of the helical spring, so that the helical spring is adjusted to a preset number of effective turns, and then the precompression or the pretension of the helical spring is adjusted. The adjusting method not only solves the problem of coil pitch tolerance and fatigue deformation existed in the adjustable helical spring, but also reduces noises produced by the adjustable helical spring in use.

  • Patent number: 6767010
Abstract: Suspension strut comprising a cylinder and a spring perch which is axially displaceable relative to the cylinder for adjustment of the position, wherein the spring perch has a sleeve portion by which the connection to the cylinder is carried out. A chamber is arranged on the cylinder side which is at least partly filled with a moldable material. The sleeve portion contacts the moldable material, which in a solid state transmits a supporting force from the cylinder to the spring perch.

  • Patent number: 6676118
Abstract: An adjustable casing for helical spring mainly includes a male and a female case, and a rotation member. A helical spring is enclosed in the casing with an end of fixedly connected to a fixing seat provided at a bottom center of the female case, and another end located in the male case. The rotation member is provided around an outer or an inner surface with a plurality of stoppers that are adapted to engage with coils of the helical spring. When the rotation member is rotated, the number of active coils of the spring subjected to a compressing or a stretching force is changed, and the modulus of elasticity of the helical spring is adjusted, accordingly. The helical spring mounted in the adjustable casing may have higher flexibility in its usage to meet requirements of different machines.
