Patent number: 11753186Abstract: Described herein are flexible truss systems and methods of transferring flexible composite parts using these systems. A flexible truss system comprises a flexible truss mechanism and composite pick-and-place mechanisms supported on the flexible truss mechanism and designed to attach to various composite parts. The flexible truss mechanism comprises flexible elongated members and slidable ribs coupled to each flexible elongated member. Specifically, each rib is slidably coupled to at least one flexible elongated member. In some examples, each rib is also fixedly coupled to another flexible elongated member. The slidable coupling allows the flexible truss mechanism to bend and follow the shape of a supported part, such that the composite pick-and-place mechanisms are able to contact and support different areas of the composite part. As such, the same flexible truss mechanism is able to support flexible composite parts having different shapes.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2020Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Caleb J. Patent number: 5063982Abstract: A hand tool useful in forming a pocket mortise in the surface of a workpiece proximate an edge of the workpiece. The hand tool includes a clamping assembly for releasably clamping the tool to the workpiece, and a router carried by the clamp assembly and mounted for manual displacement toward the workpiece edge at an incline to progressively cut deeper into the workpiece and form an inclined pocket mortise. The hand tool also preferably carries a drill bit guide on the clamp assembly which is formed to receive and guide a drill bit from a hand drill for drilling a bore from the workpiece edge to the mortise. A method of forming a pocket mortise including the steps of clamping the clamp assembly with a movable router to a workpiece, routing the pocket mortise and then drilling a hole to the pocket mortise from the edge of the workpiece by a hand drill also is described.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1990Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Inventor: Max W. Patent number: 5042772Abstract: A device for aligning the surfaces of two abutting mirrors while the mirrors are being adhesively secured to a room wall. The aligned mirrors will reflect in the same direction so as to avoid disruptions or discontinuities in the total reflected picture. An alignment bar having suction cups therealong is used to align and hold the mirrors in fixed positions while the adhesive on the mirror rear surfaces is curing to a solid rigid condition.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1990Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Inventor: Terry M. Madjeski

Patent number: 4871156Abstract: A mat cutting machine utilizes a trolley which runs smoothly and accurately along a shaft mounted upon the clamping bar assembly. Means is provided for precisely adjusting the relationship between the bevel cutting blade and the edge of the clamping bar, and the blades are held by magazines which permit ready interchangeability and facile adjustment of the amount of blade protrusion so as to enable the cutting depth to be altered with considerable ease. The base of the machine includes means for accurately positioning the workpiece, and for readily controlling the travel of the trolley, to afford high volume production capability.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1988Date of Patent: October 3, 1989Assignee: The Fletcher-Terry CompanyInventors: Vincent T. Patent number: 4867425Abstract: A one-piece elongated rectangular metal fence plate adjustably attachable to a cutable guide base of plywood or plastic. One longitudinal edge of the fence plate is formed into a guide fence for hand held power circular saws or saber saws. The invention has straight widened edges of adjustably bolting to the surface of the guide base. The fence plate attached to the guide base provides an elongated saw guide fence for straight cutting of large building material panels such as plywood. The guide base is a rectangular panel sized equal in length to the fence plate. The guide base is initially of greater width than the width of the fence plate plus the width of the base of the power saw. For the initial set-up, the fence plate is bolted to the guide base. The guide base is then cut to size using a power hand saw with the guide fence of the attached fence plate serving as the saw guide to assure parallel alignment of the guide fence relative to the cut edge of the guide base.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1989Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Inventor: Humbert G. Miraglia, Jr.

Patent number: 4736523Abstract: A device for guiding and gauging a hand-held power saw during crosscut operations on a workpiece. The device is comprised of a guide section and a gauge section interconnected by means of a length of wood strapping. The guide section has a sheath-like structure mounted on a rectangular plate with an upwardly directed forward flange and a downwardly directed side flange. The forward end of the wood strapping terminates in the guide's sheath-like structure. The forward flange guides the power saw across the front of the device. The side flange positions the device on the workpiece. The gauge section also has a sheath-like structure mounted on a square metal plate with a downwardly directed user side flange and a downwardly directed rear flange. The wood strapping passes through the gauge's sheath-like structure and is fixedly attached thereto. The flanges hold the device in position on and at one end of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1987Date of Patent: April 12, 1988Inventor: James Hanning
