  • Patent number: 5531428
Abstract: The invention discloses an adjustable closure force control device for a screw-type vise and a method for selectively controlling the closure force of the vise. The control device uses a nut barrel for threadingly receiving a screw of a screw-type vise with a movable vise jaw being operatively connected to the screw so that advancement of the screw through the nut barrel results in vise jaw closure about an article to be held. The closure force control selectively controls the advancement of the screw through the nut barrel in response to the resistance to movement encountered by the movable vise jaw. In a preferred form of the invention, a compressible detent plunger cooperates with a series of apertures spaced about the nut barrel periphery. This allows the nut barrel to rotate with the screw, ending screw advancement and jaw closure despite continued screw rotation, when the predetermined resistance to jaw movement is encountered.

  • Patent number: 4611957
Abstract: A fixture for the adjustable mounting of board-like furniture parts on the work table of a drilling machine. Underneath the drilling head of the machine, backstop rails which project slightly above the supporting surface of the work table are disposed in alignment with one another and longitudinally displaceably at equal distances on opposite sides of a longitudinal central plane. The ends of a threaded spindle are threaded into the ends of the backstop rails adjacent the drilling head, the threaded spindle being provided on each half with contrary threads of equal pitch. The threaded spindle is mounted rotatably but in a longitudinally undisplaceable manner on the work table. Cursors are longitudinally displaceable on the upper sides of the backstop rails and can be fixed at given uniform distances on the associated backstop rail, and each bears a stop which is biased to a position projecting toward the surface of the work table, and which can be retracted into the cursor against the bias.

  • Patent number: 4584952
Abstract: A sewing device for sewing an elastic band to cloth. The sewing device includes a pair of spaced fingers slidably connected one with the other, a spring-loaded pin fixed to one finger's slide bar that cooperates with one of a series of holes in the finger's slide bar to hold the fingers in desired spaced relation, and a removable spring clip that cooperates with each of the fingers to hold an elastic band in connected relation with those fingers when desired. In use, and with the fingers spaced a minimum distance one from the other, the elastic band is laid over the fingers and connected thereto by the spring clips. The spring-loaded pin on one slide bar is then depressed to move it out of a hole in the other slide bar, the slide bars thereafter being moved relative one to the other until the fingers are spaced that distance which provides the desired stretch in the elastic band.

  • Patent number: 4542892
Abstract: A machine for use in the fusion fitting of a branch, T- or saddle junction to a pipe, comprises a first clamp for holding pipe and a second clamp for holding the fitting in the correct orientation to the pipe. A manually-operated sliding plunger arrangement allows the second clamp to be moved towards or away from the first clamp by way of a manually operated device. The second clamp can be locked against retraction from any one of a plurality of positions relative to the first clamp, and is adapted to be loaded towards the first clamp in its locked positions during the fusion process when a fitting engages a pipe or a heating tool is held between a pipe and fitting. The shaft which controls the movement of the second clamp has a pivoting extension or plunger terminated by a handle, which can be folded upward. Pins mounted at selected intervals on the plunger cooperate with a loading plate during the downward movement of the plunger to urge the second clamp either toward or away from the first clamp.

  • Patent number: 4531720
Abstract: A support member (2), on which the object is intended to rest, and a base member (1) which carries the support member. The base member (1) consists mainly of a fixed frame (6) and an expanding column (9) hinged to the frame which carries the support member (2). The column by expansion or contraction can raise or lower the support member. Between the frame and the column is attached a control contrivance (13) for positioning the column between different swing positions. At a lower end position, in which the support-member is to a high degree obliquely positioned, the member can connect with a unit at a lower level, from which the workpiece can be lifted to a desired higher level. The support member also has elements (28) to ensure that the workpiece is held securely in position in all support-member attitudes.

  • Patent number: 4524662
Abstract: The present invention is a simple, inexpensive and lightweight straight-cut saw guide comprising a rigid structural guide member with a number of holes along its axis, a screw driven holding clamp which is attached at one end of the guide member and provides an abutment for engaging one end of the work piece, and a stop clamp with an abutment for engaging the other end of the work piece. The stop clamp is inserted through any one of the holes in the guide member at varying distances from the holding clamp depending upon the size of the work piece to be held and cut. The screw driven holding clamp serves to clamp the saw guide onto the work piece after the abutment is in place.

  • Patent number: 4505624
Abstract: A tool for clamping a workpiece on a table or comparable support while work is being performed on the workpiece has a pair of elongated arms, one below the table and the other, when in use, above the table. The vertically spaced arms are swingable in horizontal planes about spaced, vertical axes, the axis of swinging movement of the lower arm being beneath the table. An upright post secured to the lower arm in spaced relationship to the table, and extending upwardly from the lower arm, swingably supports one end of the upper arm. A screw carried above the table by the upper arm at its opposite end is movable downwardly to a position clamping the workpiece onto the upper surface of the table.

  • Patent number: 4475726
Abstract: A rugged sturdy workpiece positioning mechanism that effectively and efficiently positions and holds at least two workpieces for further operations is provided. The mechanism includes a main support which is slidably connected to a first workpiece and a housing assembly which is affixed to the main support and extends above and engages the second workpiece. The housing assembly includes two side plates, a cam with a handle rotatably attached to the sideplates, a ratchet to lock the cam into a fixed position and a load bearing surface actuated by the cam and slidably received between the side plates. The edge of the cam abuts the load bearing member. When the cam is rotated in a predetermined direction, the distance between its axis of rotation and the load bearing member increases driving the load bearing member downward. The load bearing surface engages the workpiece and forces the second workpiece into a desired position relative to the first workpiece.
