  • Patent number: 8286953
Abstract: An arrow fletching device with plate clamp, as well as features and aspects thereof, provides an arrow builder the means to accurately and repeatedly position fletching against the shaft of an arrow, without a spring loaded butterfly clamp component, and securely hold the fletching thereto until a bond is attained between the fletching and arrow shaft via an adhesive. Exemplary embodiments of an arrow fletching device with a plate clamp are, generally, jig apparatuses operable to precisely position an arrow shaft relative to an arrow fletching. More particularly, exemplary embodiments of an arrow fletching device comprise a plate component, in lieu of a spring-loaded butterfly clamp, useful for receiving, positioning and retaining fletching against the shaft of an arrow.

  • Publication number: 20040124573
Abstract: A modular tooling apparatus for performing a metalworking operation on a workpiece or a family of workpieces. The modular tooling apparatus consists of a base having one or more attachment surfaces, and one or more inserts that can be inserted semi-permanently to the attachment surfaces. The attachment surface is typically a pocket in the surface of the base. The insert has a workpiece support feature that can support and/or secure the workpiece into the proper position and orientation for machining. The base, pockets and inserts are configured to provide a characteristic location and orientation for the workpiece relative to the base, and to the metalworking machine. The modular tooling apparatus permits machining a family of workpiece members that are related but different in detail, by inserting the insert member from the family of inserts to properly position and orient the corresponding workpiece member, without needing to change, disconnect, or move the base tooling.

  • Patent number: 6032940
Abstract: A universal vise that has a movable and a fixed jaw that can be indexed at 90.degree. increments to provide for four separate work clamping surfaces on each jaw. The vise includes a vise screw driving a nut that drives the movable jaw in each of four indexed positions of the movable jaw. The nut provides a down pressure load on the movable jaw with a very low profile. The indexable jaws permit the vise to be adapted to hold four different types of products or workpieces. The movable vise jaw is guided with keys that protrude above the plane of the guideway surfaces of the vise, so that the nut can have a shield rib that completely fills the space between the guideway surfaces to prevent chips from building up in a recess between the rails formed with present vise jaw nuts. The movable jaw and the fixed jaw do not protrude toward the base of the vise beyond the plane of the guideway surfaces on the vise rails.

  • Patent number: 5702096
Abstract: A work holding apparatus includes a generally horizontally enlarged platelike support pallet having a plurality of vises mounted on and integrated into the pallet. The vises are typically disposed in sidewardly spaced but generally parallel relation. Each vise is associated with an elongate groove which extends horizontally of the pallet and opens downwardly from the upper surface thereof, and the vise jaws cooperate with and project downwardly into the groove so as to be movable longitudinally of the groove, whereupon the pallet effectively functions as the base for the jaws to simplify the overall structure of the apparatus and minimize the overall height thereof. The jaws are preferably activated by an elongate actuator screw which extends longitudinally of the groove and is also preferably positioned so as to be at least partially recessed into the groove to further facilitate the integration of the vise into the pallet and the minimization of the overall structure and height thereof.

  • Patent number: 5649694
Abstract: A vise with first and second movable jaws slidable on elongate ways on a base. An actuator shaft extends longitudinally of the base and has first and second reversely threaded portions threadably engaged with the respective first and second movable jaws. A releasable retraining device cooperates between the base and the second jaw to restrain slidable movement thereof. The actuator shaft is axially floatable supported relative to the base and when rotated in one direction causes the first jaw to move in a first direction along the ways. The restraining device prevents slidable movement of the second jaw so that rotation of the actuator shaft causes the shaft to be axially displaced due to its threaded engagement with the second jaw, and this increases the movement rate of the first jaw due to its threadable engagement with the actuator shaft.

  • Patent number: 4685661
Abstract: A programmably controllable vise has mechanisms for automatic adjustment of orkpiece position relative to three orthogonal axes. The positions of the vise jaws (during clamping) establish workpiece position along a first axis, and stop members (e.g., piston actuated stops) selectively extendable from the jaws establish workpiece position along a second axis. Two levelling bars supported adjacent the jaws by respective servo-actuators (e.g., double-acting piston type actuators) which adjust the bars along the jaws establish workpiece position along the third axis, as well as workpiece tilt about the first and second axes. Because the adjustments may be made automatically, the vise may operate unattended, with workpieces being loaded and unloaded by a robot. The vise jaws preferably incorporate replaceable jaw elements which are constructed for attachment and removal by a robot and which may be machined to accommodate non-prismatic workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4646418
Abstract: A carrier for a flat photomask substrate having peripheral edges comprises a frame, a handle, a shaft, primary rings, and a spring. The frame has two ends, a periphery, and a shape with one side open. The handle has two ends and is journaled to one of the two ends of the frame. The shaft is provided through the one end of the frame and one end of the handle. This shaft allows the one end of the frame to pivot in a freely rotatable manner about the one end of the handle. The primary rings are arranged at the other end of the frame and at the one end of the handle. Such primary rings support the peripheral edges of the flat photomask substrate. The spring extends between the one end of the frame and the one end of the handle. This spring presses the primary rings into contact with the peripheral edges of the flat photomask substrate.

  • Patent number: 4625460
Abstract: A fixture for use in the non-encapsulated cross-sectioning of a composite structure. The fixture comprises a base having a ridge formed in the lower surface thereof for supporting the base on a grinding disc for cross-sectioning of the composite structure. The fixture further comprises a mounting member removably secured to that end of the base opposite the ridge. The mounting member extends outwardly from the base, and the composite structure is mounted on a front face of the mounting member. The front face of the mounting member has two contiguous but discontinuous surfaces on which the structure may be mounted. Either perpendicular or angled sections may be formed in the structure, depending upon which surface of the front face the structure is mounted.
