Abstract: A cylinder back plate includes a frame member 11 and a cylinder clamp 12 connected to the frame member 11 by means of a pivot 13. The cylinder clamp 12 comprises a band of rigid or semi-rigid material. The cylinder clamp 12 has a retaining position with respect to the frame member 11, wherein the cylinder clamp extends substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the frame member. The frame member 11 lies parallel to a back plate of the harness or is constituted by the back plate of the harness. Thus, when the cylinder clamp 12 is in the retaining position a cylinder can be retained securely to the frame member and sliding of the cylinder relative to the frame member or back plate can be prevented. When it is desired to attach a new cylinder to the harness, the cylinder clamp 12 can be pivoted into a loading position.

The side members extend between and connect the front member and the back member. The work piece is supported by and between the side members. The stop block is interposed between the back member and the work piece. The clamping mechanism, which is operatively coupled between the front member and the work piece, exerts a clamping force against the work piece to press the work piece against the stop block. In this way, the work piece is clamped between the front member and the back member.

  • Patent number: 6755912
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preheating golf balls prior to painting. The process includes forming golf balls with covers, heating, coating, and further heating the golf balls in a heated enclosure. The apparatus includes a ventilated holding tray that in addition to supporting the golf balls with a minimum of contact between balls and tray will allow for a thorough flow of heat about the balls for quick and uniform heating. This also will aid in reducing blemishes to the golf balls, by suspending freshly painted golf balls on conical pins set at right angles to the balls, thereby reducing the physical contact between the tray and freshly painted golf balls. The tray comprises replaceable ball support inserts. The inserts will generally be made from injection molded plastic and will be friction-fitted to the tray, and if damaged can be easily and inexpensively replaced.

  • Patent number: 6678932
Abstract: In instruments such as Wien filters, electrostatic and/or magnetic pole pieces must be mounted on and secured to a supporting structure with a very high degree of dimensional precision, usually by brazing. To that end, a fixture is provided for holding the parts to be assembled in precise relationship and to press the pole pieces into engagement with the supporting structure while the securing operation is being carried out. The pressing is accomplished by a gravity-produced force which is, therefore, independent of positional accuracies caused by very high temperatures, such as are encountered during brazing.

  • Patent number: 6553644
Abstract: A device for processing workpieces utilizes a frame and a fixture. The frame has a perimeter with an opening, and inner and outer side walls. A pair of shelves are located in the opening for supporting a workpiece and a spring retains the workpiece on the frame. The fixture has work locations with elevators that are moved by an elevator handle. The fixture also has an engagement handle for actuating the springs. The workpieces may be simultaneously mounted to or removed from the frames with the fixture. The frames are loaded into the locations and both handles are rotated to raise the elevators and bend the springs. The workpieces are then placed on top of the elevators, and the elevator handle is rotated to lower the workpieces. Next, the engagement handle is rotated to release the springs to form assemblies that can be removed from the fixture.

  • Patent number: 6547559
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for supporting a semiconductor wafer in a vacuum and transferring heat by gas conduction between the wafer and a wafer chuck to facilitate wafer processing. The wafer substrate is loaded onto a seat plate, and then a clamp ring is lowered against the force of compression springs that bias the seat plate upward on guides extending upward from the body of the chuck. The clamp ring touches the wafer on the front or top side with an inner O-ring that is attached to the bottom of the clamp ring, and forces the wafer and the seat plate down to a lower position parallel to a heat transfer surface of the chuck, spaced therefrom by a narrow gap. In the lower position, an outer O-ring that is also attached to the bottom of the clamp contacts an outer sealing surface that surrounds the heat transfer surface, thereby enclosing a cavity that includes an annular chamber around the outside of the chuck and the narrow gap. Gas is supplied to the passage and thus to the gap.

  • Patent number: 6510620
Abstract: A boring tool head has a movable element which can be moved by means of an adjuster relative to a centerline. Attached to the movable element is a cutting tool which moves with the movable element. A hole which is slightly smaller in size than the desired hole is first bored with the boring tool head and its size precisely measured. The fitting of the invention is then clamped onto the boring tool head by means of a clamping lever. The fitting has a position sensor which abuts against the movable element of the boring tool head, an indicator being attached to the sensor which provides an indication of the sensor's lateral position. The indicator is set to zero and the boring tool head adjuster set to bring the movable element of the boring tool head, as indicated on the indicator, to the desired position for increasing the size of the initially bored hole to the desired precise dimension.
