Patent number: 5741111Abstract: An electro-pneumatic machining jig is adapted to be attached to the bed of a machine such as a milling machine, grinding machine or the like. The jig holds a workpiece, such as a cylinder head, for machining in a desired position relative to a tool head. The machining jig has a pair of jig stands (10) for clamping the workpiece therebetween, with the jig stands (10) mounted in selected spaced relationship on the bed of the machine. Each jig stand (10) has a workpiece connection means (22, 25) mounted on an adjustable stand (16, 17, 18). The stand is supported on a base (11, 12) which includes air-float means (54, 55, 50) and electromagnetic means (13, 53). The air-float means (54, 55, 56) permits alignment of the clamped workpiece relative to the tool head whilst the bases of the pair of jig stands (10) are floating. When the air-float is terminated, the electromagnetic means (13, 53) are energized to clamp each jig stand (10) to a mounting plate on the machine.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Inventor: Steven Edward Goostrey

Patent number: 4819921Abstract: A vice has a base fixed to the worktable of a machine, a slider slidable on the base and a fixing-releasing mechanism for selectively fixing the slider to the base and releasing the slider from the base. The fixing-releasing mechanism is provided with an actuator extending through a large hole formed in the base and engageable with the base and the slider. When not applied by pressurized fluid, the actuator fixes the slider to the base, and when applied by the fluid, it releases the slider from the base for the positional adjustment of the slider. The vice also has a piston-cylinder assembly composed of a cylinder tube and a piston assembly slidable in the cylinder tube and surrounding a lead screw in a telescopic manner. When applied by pressurized fluid, the piston assembly as well as the lead screw advances to move a movable clamp element on the slider towards a stationary clamp element fixed on the slider, for clamping a work between both the clamp elements.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1988Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Man Design Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shiro Takahashi

Patent number: 4496139Abstract: A vise clamp has an elongated body which fits into a T-shaped slot of a tool table. The body has a head at one end which extends out of the slot and pair of pivotal lugs which fit under the side shoulder of the slot. Means are provided to provide a pivoting action which tends to pivot the head toward the table surface to tend to clamp a tool such as a vise against the table. The major portion of the clamp thus remains recessed below the table surface. The clamp permits making a low profile swivel base vise that has the clamps positioned below the vise base and yet they are easily operated.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1983Date of Patent: January 29, 1985Assignee: Kurt Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: John O. Patent number: 3958335Abstract: Angle setting mechanism, particularly for vises mounted on the table of a machine tool. There is provided an angle setting mechanism for use with vises, primarily on the table of a machine tool, which indicates a preselected angle with respect to said table. The vise is then aligned with respect to, preferably by contact against, said indicating device and clamped in position. In one preferred form of the vise, a guiding anchor member or slide is provided in the T-slot of the table and a block is positioned pivotally with respect thereto. Angle measuring means are provided therebetween whereby said block may be positioned with respect to said guide at a preselected angle and then clamped in such position. The vise is then brought to bear against said block, positioned with an appropriate face in contact therewith in order that the vise may assume said same angle and said vise is then clamped in position. The indicating device may then be removed if desired.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Inventors: Franz Arnold, Oscar Boehm
