Patent number: 8191453Abstract: A specimen slicing guide for use in slicing a biopsy specimen taken from a human patient or an animal patient includes a base extending in a longitudinal direction. A plurality of needles extends substantially perpendicularly to the base and the needles are spaced along the longitudinal direction of the base. Two specimen slicing guides are coupled via at least one link, which is adapted to allow an adjustable spacing of the two specimen slicing guides in a parallel relationship. A method of cutting a biopsy specimen includes fixing the biopsy specimen relative to a support surface using the needles of two, parallel-arranged specimen slicing guides, inserting a cutting tool between corresponding needle gap pairs and then downwardly moving the cutting tool under guidance of adjacent needles.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2009Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Inventor: Shu Ichihara

Patent number: 6777903Abstract: The present invention provides a robotic gripper mechanism. The invention comprises gripping jaws and a wedge that moves along angled groove between the gripping jaws. The angled grooves are connected to the gripping jaws, and the wedge moves the gripping jaws together and apart as it slides backward and forward along the angled grooves. The wedge also keeps the gripper jaws parallel to each other as they open and close. A motor moves the wedge backward and forward, and guiding surfaces attached to the base prevent the jaws from moving horizontally relative to the base.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2002Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: Storage Technology CorporationInventor: Timothy C. Patent number: 6543322Abstract: A cutting frame for holding an object to be sliced into two pieces. The object, such as a bagel, has a bottom surface, a peripheral edge, and a top surface. The cutting frame has a base which holds a support stem, which in turn holds a ring shaped guide member. The guide member has a knife blade guide slot extending through it to guide a knife downwardly through the guide member and through a bagel or other object held in the guide member. The process of using the cutting frame includes holding a bagel against a closed side of the compartment formed within the guide member so that the user's fingers press the bagel against the closed surface of the compartment. A knife is then placed in the knife blade guide slot and drawn back and forth downwardly through the bagel to form an accurate slice parallel to the bottom of the bagel. The guide blade knife slot extends completely through the guide member so that the bagel is always cut into two separate pieces.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Inventor: John M.
