First and second arms are pivotally coupled to one another at a pivot point. The arms define a pair of opposing jaws that engage the rib and a pair of levers extending away from the opposing jaws on either side of the rib. A threaded member cooperating with each lever is rotated towards the structure. An object is positioned between each threaded member and the structure. In this way, the threaded members press the objects securely against the structure as the opposing jaws grip the rib.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1997Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: James G. Patent number: 5667209Abstract: A device for securely clamping a workpiece (2) on a clamping table (1), which device has a guide shoe (3) which can be fastened on the clamping table (1) and has T-slot-shaped clearances (35) which continue, in a symmetrical arrangement, over the length of the guide shoe. The device also has a clamping claw (8) which is designed as a tilting lever and has a clamping leg (10) and a bracing leg (9). A clamping bolt (11) is provided which passes through the clamping leg (10) in the region of its free end and, in the clamping position, fixes the clamping claw (8) relative to the guide shoe (3) and securely clamps the workpiece (2). A bearing plate (4) is provided between the guide shoe (3) and clamping claw (8) and the bearing plate (4) is guided in a sliding manner in the T-slot-shaped clearances (35) by means of strip-like protrusions (21).Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1995Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Shanview Patents LimitedInventor: Thomas Lenzkes

Patent number: 5553838Abstract: A clamping bench dog that provides a simple, economical clamp that may typically be used with conventional round dogs but is also usable with square or rectangular dogs, other clamping dogs and the hold-down described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,275,391. A section of round metal rod provides a clamp body or post that fits into a bench dog hole. A second, threaded rod passes through a threaded hole near the upper end of the post at an angle of approximately eighty-seven degrees (87.degree.) to the axis of the post. A rotatable foot is attached to one end of the threaded rod and can tilt up to about three degrees (3.degree.). A handle, knob or tangent on the other end of the threaded rod is utilized to rotate it, and a wire spring journaled in a longitudinal groove on the post assures that the post will remain fixed in bench top dog holes by pressing against the wall of the hole to increase the friction between the post and wall.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1994Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Lee Valley Tools Ltd.Inventor: Leonard G. Patent number: 5516087Abstract: In order to improve a clamping device, in particular for clamping workpieces on a machine table, comprising a housing securable in position on a support surface of a carrier by means of an anchoring element, a clamping element movable relative to the housing and having a clamping arm projecting from the housing and a clamping spindle rotatably mounted on the housing for moving the clamping element, such that the housing can be secured in place on the support surface in as simple a manner as possible, it is suggested that a fastening element supported on the housing be movable relative to the housing from a first position into a second position for securing the housing in position, that in the first position the housing be detachable from the support surface and that in the second position the fastening element secure the housing in position on the support surface by acting on the anchoring element with a fastening force.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1994Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: Bessey & Sohn GmbH & Co.Inventors: Clemens Schmid, Gerhard Kloepfer

Patent number: 5397116Abstract: A work holder is provided which comprises a work surface having a pattern of apertures across its entire surface. The apertures allow a conventional clamp to secure any work piece to the work surface at any point on the surface. The apertures are circular in shape and of a dimension such that a conventional clamp will not slip from the board. Radially extended flutes are connected to the circular apertures to allow the clamps to be fully extended across a work piece and be essentially locked to the work surface. Half apertures at the edges of the work surface allow the work surfaces to interlock with one another. The interlocking half apertures in combination with their radial flutes allow the work surface to be set up in a wide variety of configurations.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1992Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Inventor: John L. Patent number: RE40652Abstract: A fixing member (B, N) pierces a screw hole (13b) of a first clamping member (13) and an insertion hole (14c) of a second clamping member (14), and fixes the first and second clamping members (13, 14) to a workbench (12). The position of a workpiece (W) relative to the workbench is determined by utilizing the first and second clamping members (13, 14) fixed to the workbench (12) by the fixing member (B, N). The workpiece (W) moved to a space between a clamping face (13d) of the first clamping member (13) and a flange portion (14b) of the second clamping member (14) is fixed by a fastening member (15).Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 10, 2009Inventor: Eikichi Nishimura
