Patent number: 10717625Abstract: A sheet processing device includes a conveying unit, a presser, an end detector, and a setting unit. The conveying unit conveys a sheet having a crease formed therein. The presser presses the crease in the sheet. The end detector detects an end in a conveying direction of the sheet at a position upstream of the presser in the conveying direction. The setting unit sets a crease position where the crease is to be formed. Upon detection of the end in the conveying direction, the conveying unit conveys the sheet to a position where the crease faces the presser, on the basis of the crease position set by the setting unit. The presser presses the crease in the conveyed sheet.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2018Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Assignee: RICOH COMPANY, LIMITEDInventors: Michitaka Suzuki, Tomohiro Furuhashi, Tomomichi Hoshino, Satoshi Saito, Takahiro Watanabe, Takao Watanabe, Yuji Suzuki

Patent number: 5042788Abstract: A printing apparatus has an array of cartridges for printing a web of e.g. paper passing through the array, and one or more units containing printing medium. The cartridges each are capable of transferring the printing medium from the unit(s) to the web. The unit(s) and the cartridges of the array are relatively movable, to allow the unit(s) to interact successively with at least two of the cartridges. In this way it is possible to change printing from one cartridge to another, allowing changes to be made to what is printed, without halting the movement of web significantly. The present invention also proposes that the cartridges may have printing cylinders of different sizes, and furthermore that a mobile unwind stand may be used to move web material to the printing apparatus, and the web output from the printing apparatus processed by sheet folding techniques.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1990Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignee: Strachan Henshaw Machinery Ltd.Inventors: Kenneth A. Patent number: 4770284Abstract: Apparatus for transporting folded sheets has one or two pairs of chain conveyors whose horizontal upper reaches define two spaced-apart portions of a first path for the transport of successive folded sheets of a series of sheets in such a way that the sheets ride on the pairs of conveyors in inverted positions (with the backs on top). An additional chain conveyor has a horizontal upper run defining a second horizontal path between the first and second portions of the first path to transfer the sheets from the first to the second portion of the first pair. The additional chain conveyor advances successive sheets along a stationary ramp which pivots the panels of the sheets apart so that the thus exposed inner sides of the panels are accessible for the application of printed information, labels or the like. The speed of the additional conveyor can slightly exceed the speed of the other chain conveyor or conveyors.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1986Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Grapha-Holding AGInventor: Heinz Boss

Patent number: 4516759Abstract: To match the speed of incoming sheets, typically folded sheets, form a first high-speed transport system (3, 4) to a receiving speed of a second, lower speed transport system (5, 6), a decelerating path is formed by a third transport system (1, 2) which includes moving belts which are looped about looping rollers (17, 18) in S-configuration to further define a third path between opposed rollers (19, 20), the looping rollers being reciprocatably connected to a slide unit by an eccenter-and-crank arrangement (22, 23) so that the belts (14, 14') of the third unit will have undulating variable speed between maximum and minimum. The rotation of the eccenter-and-crank arrangement (22, 23) is synchronized with the transport of sheets such that, when the belts are at their maximum speed, they are about to grip the leading edge of a sheet being fed thereto, and then decelerate to their minimum speed when the sheets are about to leave the third transport system.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1984Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Assignee: M.A.N.-ROLAND Druckmaschinen AktiengesellschaftInventor: Ingo Kobler

Patent number: 4234178Abstract: A process and apparatus for the production of a book block, including sheet feeders disposed in series alongside a continuously running, transversely inclined conveyor belt, so that the sheets are successively fed from the feeders and successively disposed one upon the other on the conveyor belt to form a packet. Each sheet is first conveyed from its associated feeder at a downwardly inclined angle, and in a transverse direction with respect to the conveyor belt, and thereafter accelerated at another downwardly inclined angle and in the direction of the conveyor belt to obtain the conveyor belt speed for deposit thereon. From the conveyor belt, the packets are perforated, aligned, cut into strips and again aligned, all of which being performed at the same inclined angle as the conveyor belt. The strips are then folded and cut into quires. The quires are scaled off and then thrust together and thereupon gathered into the book block blank.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1978Date of Patent: November 18, 1980Assignee: Reinhard Mohn GmbHInventors: Alexander Beckert, Ernst Dudziak

Patent number: RE42388Abstract: An air folder adjuster (10) includes an air supply (12) and air supply tubing (14) connected to air supply (12) at end (16). The opposite end (18) of air supply tubing (14) is connected to one or more air nozzles (20).
