Thereby, the separation piece contacts the paper supplying roller with a large urging force from the first and second pressing springs. When the paper is transferred after the separation of the paper by the separation piece, the projected part of the paper supporting plate contacts the contact part of the pressure applying part to release the pressure of the separation piece from the separation piece contact part. Abstract: To provide a sheet supply device including a long life sheet supply roller. A large radius portion 10a of a sheet supply roller 10 is gradually abraded in association with passage of operation time. Protrusions 12a of an idle roller 12 initially contact a rotational shaft 14 without forming any play between the protrusions 12a and the rotational shaft 14. However, friction force generated between the tips of the protrusions 12 and the rotational shaft 14 wears down the protrusions 12a. As a result, a difference between the radius of the large radius portion 10a and the radius of the idle roller 12 will be hardly decreased even after a cumulative operation time. Therefore, even after the abrasion progresses, sheet supply operations will be operated properly.

  • Patent number: 5882004
Abstract: A sheet feeding mechanism including a pick apparatus for selectively moving a sheet of media from a stack. A kicker is disclosed in several embodiments and serves to retain media on the stack. A cam is coupled to the pick apparatus for deflecting the kicker from the first position at which it retains media on the stack to a second position at which paper is allowed to move through the mechanism. The mechanism includes a frame and a shaft mounted on the frame for rotational movement relative thereto. The pick apparatus includes a pick tire mounted on the shaft and adapted to rotate therewith. The kicker is mounted on the frame for retaining media on the stack in a first position. The cam is adapted to deflect the kicker during a first portion of a rotational cycle and to release the kicker when the cam is in a second rotational position.

Abstract: The sheet feeder of an ink jet printer includes a semi-cylindrical feed roller. A first gear and a second gear are fixed to the roller coaxially with it. The feeder also includes a feed motor rotatable in both directions. The torque of reverse rotation and the torque of normal rotation of the motor are transmitted through a first gear system and a second gear system to the first and second gears, respectively. The first gear has a peripheral surface without teeth. The surface is formed in part of a different peripheral portion of the first gear than the peripheral portion of the first gear which engages with the first gear system while the reverse rotation of the motor by a predetermined amount of reverse rotation is turning the roller by a first predetermined amount from an initial position.

  • Patent number: 5857671
Abstract: A sheet feeder capable of providing accurate separation of an uppermost sheet from remaining sheets of a sheet stack stored in a hopper regardless of a size and rigidity of the sheets. The sheet feeder includes a sheet feed roller positioned in confrontation with the hopper for feeding the sheet in a sheet feeding direction. An outlet end portion of the hopper is provided with a wall to which the leading edge of the sheet abuts. The wall is provided with a slanted surface sloping toward the sheet feeding direction, and a stop member protrudable from or retractable into the slanted surface. The stop member is biased in the protruding direction by a coil spring. When the sheets having high rigidity are stored in the hopper, the leading edge of the sheet pushes the stop member into the slanted surface (51) and the uppermost sheet is separated from the remaining sheets by the slanted surface.

Taking-in runners 20 are disposed on the first shaft 21 and taking-in rollers 30 are disposed on the second shaft 31. The taking-in runners 20 and the taking-in rollers 30 differ in position in a direction in which the shafts extend. Further, the sum of the radius of each taking-in runner 20 and that of each taking-in roller 30 is larger than the spacing between the first shaft 21 and the second shaft 31. Thus, if a plurality of overlapped bills are caught in the space between the taking-in runners 20 and the taking-in rollers 30, they are bent in a wavy form and the intimate contact force between the bill is lowered significantly, causing the bills to be easily aligned.
