  • Patent number: 6474650
Abstract: Although traveling through time is impossible, the idea can still be examined in works of fiction, including card games. A Timeline of events is presented, arranged in chronological order, on two-sided playing cards. During the course of a game, players representing “time travelers” may alter the outcome of past events. This is simulated by turning over specific cards on the Timeline, called Linchpins, which represent pivotal moments in history. Symbols on these and other cards indicate how history becomes different as a result of these changes. Other cards, called Ripplepoints, are follow-on events that change when dependent prior events are altered, and are also turned over when Linchpin cards are changed. The method of associating past and future events with icons on the cards allows for easy upkeep of the ever-changing Timeline without needing to grasp the complex logic behind the imagined reasons for the cascading alternate realities.

At the same time, all other players in the game predict how the player will respond by similarly choosing an appropriate response card. After players have all privately made their choices, they then reveal their responses. Abstract: Improved flash cards for teaching and practicing the game of blackjack. Each flash card has two playing situations presented in separate sections (10 and 23) on its front side, in opposing orientations and at opposing ends of the card. In each section, the playing cards held by the player are represented as two or more overlapping images (11 and 12) of portions of playing cards. The dealer's card is a smaller image (16) of a playing card in perspective, within a frame (14) which overlaps the image of one of the player's cards. The recommended action (42) for a player to take when presented with each situation and the rule (44) governing how to play in each situation are printed in similar sections (40 and 50) on the back of each flash card. Identifiers (18and 46) appear on each side of the flash card to indicate a group of flash cards to which the card belongs, and the sequence of the card within that group.

Abstract: A card reader for a blackjack table comprised of a card reading device and a housing therefor, said housing attachable to the blackjack table. The card reading device has associated therewith a light source, a power source for energizing said light source, and a platform coplanar with said blackjack table defining an aperture for reading a portion of a face-down playing card. Said aperture is covered partially by a cover to minimize the opportunity of black jack players other than the dealer to view the portion of the card being inspected. A reflective surface is disposed generally below said aperture to reflect the portion of the face-down card being read through the non-covered portion of the aperture to reveal to the dealer any indicia on the portion of the face down card being read. There is also disclosed herein a method for increasing the speed of play in an organized game of blackjack.

Abstract: An educational puzzle includes a base panel and a set of puzzle pieces. The base panel has a number of holes through it, while the puzzle pieces have mating pegs extending through them, to both sides. The arrangement is such that the puzzle pieces can be arranged in on the front face of the base panel and with the pegs registering with the holes in the base panel, and arranged in another array on the bottom of the base panel, with the puzzle pieces inverted. The base panel and the puzzle pieces are marked with corresponding or related indicia on their front faces. They may carry similar markings on their back faces, where the puzzle pieces may be arranged with sequential markings designating the sequence in which the puzzle pieces are to be assembled. The puzzle may be used from either side of the base panel as two puzzle features to teach very different yet related concepts: number sequencing or number counting; alphabetical sequencing or word recognition; and other skills.

  • Patent number: 4872681
Abstract: A game apparatus incorporates a random result generator into the playing surface itself, and includes a game board having a perimeter, a plurality of corners, a plurality of playing sections, and a center area. A boundary extends generally around the perimeter of the playing surface, but interior of the corners. A plurality of section dividing lines, each defining a diminishing-radius curve extending from the boundary towards the center area, divide that portion of the playing surface into a plurality of playing sections, each bearing indicia corresponding to a play result. Players roll game pieces from the playing surface corners towards the playing sections, so that the game piece comes to rest on one playing section, thus generating a result indicia for that roll. The player then draws a single card from the group of cards bearing that same result indicia, and asks the question printed on that card.

  • Patent number: 4693480
Abstract: This invention is a new kind of card game that will make the players feel very happy because the game is easy to play since the symbol (ball, octagon, star, triangle, or wall) and the single color on the face of each card tell each one of two players when to buy, owe, sell, trade, or wind two cards. The dealer controls or instructs all players so the game will always be easy to play, and serial numbers on the cards and colored coins prevents cheating and disencourages trying to cheat. A player wins by showing the dealer at a certain time any number of cards that equal 3 whole matching colors. Card game toys (the colored bank, the colored stick-tray, and the players' assemble card) help the dealer control the players in every game and the other card game toys help the players follow the instructions of the dealer since the said toys are ID (identification) tags and colored coins. Players without enough cards and/or colored coins are eliminated from the game.

  • Patent number: 4635939
Abstract: Game playing apparatus consists of a set of question cards bearing moral questions to which a positive, negative, or indeterminate answer may be given. Also provided is a set of answer cards, each bearing an answer selected from a positive, negative and indeterminate answer. Each player has a number of question cards, and one randomly selected answer card. His object is to select a question and one of the other players to answer it in such manner that the answer he receives matches the answer given on the answer card that he holds. In such case, he advances toward winning by disposing of the question card without replacing it with a fresh question card. The skill in playing therefore lies in a questioner anticipating which of the players is most likely to give the desired answer to a particular moral question. Those answering questions can use their skill to guess what type of answer is hoped for and to thwart the qustioner by giving another answer from the three types.
