  • Patent number: 11253873
Abstract: A centrifugal field-flow fractionation device capable of improving analysis performance and shortening analysis time is provided. A first channel 111 communicating with a channel member is formed on a rotational shaft 11 that rotates together with a rotor. A second channel 644 communicating with the first channel 111 is formed on a fixing portion 60 fixed in a state of facing the rotational shaft 11 along a rotational axis L. A mechanical seal 66 having a pair of seal rings 661 and 662 that come into contact with each other and a biasing member 663 is provided to attach one seal ring 661 to the rotational shaft 11 and the other seal ring 662 to the fixing portion 60. The biasing member 663 biases the pair of seal rings 661 and 662 in a direction in which the pair of seal rings come in contact with each other. Since the rotational shaft 11 can be rotated at a high speed and the liquid sample can be fed at a high pressure, the analysis performance can be improved and the analysis time can be shortened.

  • Patent number: 11253963
Abstract: A separable component assembly is disclosed. The separable component assembly can include a first component having a first interface portion. The separable component assembly can also include a second component coupled to the first component. The second component can have a second interface portion. In addition, the separable component assembly can include a seal disposed between the first and second interface portions. The seal can have a first interface surface associated with the first interface portion. The seal can also have a second interface surface in contact with the second interface portion. Additionally, the seal can have a peel initiator defining a discontinuity in a portion of the second interface surface. Upon separation of the first and second components from one another, the discontinuity can create a stress concentration in the second interface surface that initiates peeling of the second interface surface away from the second interface portion.

  • Patent number: 7303380
Abstract: Corner seal sockets (26) are formed at the end of apex seal slots (58) formed in a rotor (10). A twisted split washer spring (70) is positioned in each socket (26) between the base wall (28) of the socket (26) and the inner end of the corner seal (16). The springs (70) bias the outer end surfaces of the corner seals (16) against the inner side surfaces of the housing sidewalls (20, 22). A radial apex seal slot (32) is formed in each corner seal (16). The base (38) of each slot (32) is substantially semi cylindrical in shape. It and the cylindrical peripheral surface (44) of the corner seal (16) form an arch shaped bight that connects side portions of the corner seals (16) together. End portions of the apex seals (18) extend into the apex seal slots (32) in the corner seals (16). The end portions of the apex seal biasing spring (60) contacts spring abutments (52, 54) which project radially inwardly from the outer ends of the apex seal (18).

  • Patent number: 6517078
Abstract: A face seal device for use with components rotating at a high rotational speed includes a non-rotating face seal ring (5) and a rotary face seal ring (11). The rotary face seal ring is mounted in a loose fit for common rotation with a rotating component and includes a sealing face (6) which, in operation, is essentially radially aligned for cooperation with an opposite sealing face (16) of the non-rotating face seal ring. A heavy-mass-contributing element (22) is arranged to rotate in common with the rotating component and engages a portion of the rotary face seal ring. The center of gravity of the heavy-mass-contributing element is axially spaced from that of the rotary face seal ring, whereby, in operation, a torque directed towards the non-rotating face seal ring is applied to the rotary face seal ring. This torque arises from the centrifugal forces that correspond to the mass-contributing element and the spacing between the centers of gravity.

  • Patent number: 6299174
Abstract: An improved mechanical seal assembly is provided for sealing rotating shafts with respect to their shaft housings, wherein the rotating shafts are subject to substantial axial vibrations. The mechanical seal assembly generally includes a rotating sealing ring fixed to the shaft, a non-rotating sealing ring adjacent to and in close contact with the rotating sealing ring for forming an annular seal about the shaft, and a mechanical diode element that applies a biasing force to the non-rotating sealing ring by means of hemispherical joint. The alignment of the mechanical diode with respect to the sealing rings is maintained by a series of linear bearings positioned axially along a desired length of the mechanical diode. Alternative embodiments include mechanical or hydraulic amplification components for amplifying axial displacement of the non-rotating sealing ring and transferring it to the mechanical diode.

  • Patent number: 6193487
Abstract: A scroll-type vacuum pump wherein an expander and a compressor are arranged in series, in two stages, in the same housing and driven by the same shaft. The first stage is a scroll-type expander. It is in series with a scroll-type compressor, which is the second stage. The volume of the suction pockets of the second stage, the compressor, is not significantly smaller than the volume of the discharge pockets of the first stage device, the expander. Thus, the amount of heat associated with the re-expansion and compression process is reduced. The two stage pump also includes a double shaft seal mechanism which seals off the suction chamber of the expander from both the ambient and the discharge chamber of the expander. The two stage pump of the invention further includes a labyrinth structure at the tip surfaces of the scroll elements to tightly control the axial gap between the tips and bases of the mating scroll elements.

  • Patent number: 6139256
Abstract: Conventional gas compressors use dry gas sealing arrangements mounted on a shaft of the gas compressor. Functionally, for the dry gas sealing arrangement to properly seal, the concentricity of shaft and the dry gas sealing arrangement must be maintained at a close tolerance. Past assembly techniques have failed to mount such dry gas sealing arrangement to the shaft in an effective and efficient manner to control the concentricity during operation. The present method and apparatus for controlling the concentricity of a member with a centering device effectively and efficiently controls the concentricity between the member and the shaft. The structure of the centering device includes a first cylindrical portion, a second cylindrical portion and a transition portion. The first cylindrical portion is cantilevered about the shaft and centers a first end of the member. The second cylindrical portion and the transition portion form a mid-support for a second end of said member.

  • Patent number: 5909878
Abstract: A mechanical face seal assembly for sealing a rotating member with respect to a stationary member comprises at least a pair of cooperating annular sealing elements, of which one is mountable in a non-rotating manner with respect to the stationary member and the other for common rotation with the rotating member. Between the rotating member and the non-rotating sealing element an annular space is defined, the radial dimension of which varies between a region of minimum radial dimension and a region of maximum radial dimension, which are offset circumferentially to each other. Inlet means for introducing a buffer liquid into the annular space at or near to the region having a maximum radial dimension and outlet means for discharging said buffer liquid from said annular space at or near to the region having a minimum radial dimension are provided.
