The seal seat includes an interface component including a seat wall including the interface surface and a seat cavity surface opposite the interface surface, such that a wall thickness of the interface component is defined therebetween. A cover component is secured to the interface component, the cover component including a cover cavity surface. The seat cavity surface and the cover cavity surface define a cooling cavity therebetween configured such that a flow of fluid therethrough cools the interface component via contact between the coolant and the seat cavity surface.

A method of sealing may include providing a mating ring having a sealing face, a plurality of hydrodynamic grooves disposed in the sealing face, a plurality of impeller portions, and a plurality of inlet conduits configured to provide fluid communication between respective ones of the plurality of hydrodynamic grooves and the plurality of impeller portions. The method may include rotating the mating ring, and increasing at least one of a pressure, a volume, and a flow rate of fluid to the hydrodynamic grooves via the plurality of impeller portions drawing said fluid into the plurality of inlet conduits.

    Abstract: An inter stage seal housing for a turbine engine having upper and lower half inter stage seal housings in which a contact sealing surface of the seal housing is restored after an interval of engine operation. The contact sealing surface is restored by fitting a replaceable wear strip on the downstream sealing surface of the seal housing. In order to fit the replaceable wear strip, a circumferential groove is machined along an outer peripheral edge of the seal housing. The groove is machined to include axial location and radial retention such that the wear strips can be slid into the upper half and lower half inter stage seal housing circumferentially from the horizontal joint.
