  • Publication number: 20110243648
Abstract: A seal assembly can be incorporated into a track pin joint assembly including a pin defining a longitudinal axis, a first member and a second member both coaxial with the pin about the longitudinal axis. The first member is pivotable about the longitudinal axis with respect to the second member and includes a load ring engagement surface defining a seal cavity disposed in proximal relationship to the second member. A seal assembly including a seal ring and a load ring is disposed in the seal cavity and sealingly engages the first and second members. An axial segment of a seal ring engagement surface of the load ring extends over at least half the length, measured along the longitudinal axis, between a radial segment of the seal ring engagement surface and a radial segment of a first member engagement surface of the load ring. At least one of a load ring engagement surface of the first member and an axial segment of the first member engagement surface of the load ring includes a convex rounded portion.

  • Publication number: 20090184476
Abstract: A valve is disclosed and can include a valve body having a central bore for passage of fluid there through and a longitudinal axis. The valve can also include a seal installed within the valve body along the central bore. The seal can include a first seal member having an annular ring portion and a hub portion extending from the annular ring portion. The seal can also include a second seal member including an annular ring configured to engage a distal end of the hub portion and create a sealing engagement between the hub portion and the annular ring when a compressive force is applied to the first and the second seal members.

  • Patent number: 7549836
Abstract: A bearing seal assembly includes a pair segmented circumferential or a carbon ring seals to contain oil in the bearing compartments of a gas turbine engine or other mechanical device. The pair of seals, an oil-side seal and an air-side seal, are axially-spaced between the oil and the air in the housing. Air at an elevated pressure is introduced between the seals. This elevated air pressure urges the seals axially apart from one another and radially inward to improve the seal. A backup seal is provided adjacent either the oil-side seal or the air-side seal. In the event of failure of either the oil-side seal or the air-side seal which results in the loss of air pressure, the backup seal will provide at least a minimum level of seal between the oil compartment and the air in the housing.

  • Patent number: 6702293
Abstract: A seal member adapted to be mounted between a cylinder head cover and an ignition plug tube comprises a mount portion interposed radially movably between an upper surface of an annular stepped portion formed around an opening of the cylinder head cover for insertion of the ignition plug tube and a baffle plate. A first seal portion and a second seal portion project radially outward and inward, respectively, from the mount portion to be brought into contact with a peripheral surface of the annular stepped portion and the ignition plug tube, respectively. The second seal portion can be elastically deformed following relative radial movements between the mount portion and the ignition plug tube.

  • Publication number: 20040041351
Abstract: The invention relates to a gap seal (6)for sealing a gap (3) between two adjacent components (1,2), in particular in turbo machines. A sealing body (7) has a band (18) with a cross-section that is bent in such a way that two contact zones (8) formed on it abut with a preloan against two facing sealing surfaces (9) of components (1,2). The contact zones (8) are able to deflect resiliently when the distance between the sealing surfaces (9) is reduced. A support zone (11) formed between the contact zones (8) is supported on a step (10) vertically to the spring movement. The step (10) is formed on one of the components (2) and projects from its sealing surface (9) towards the sealing surface (9) of the other component (1).

  • Patent number: 6585416
Abstract: A guide to support a shaft such as a pump pull rod (11) which is capable of both rotary and reciprocal motion. The guide prevents any misalignment of rod (11) damaging a seal, e.g. a stuffing box, held in space (24). Guide element (18) has central portion (19) and annular flange (25). Element (18) can move laterally with respect to housing (12) and can also pivot, along with the cap (15) of the housing (12), with respect to the lower portion (14) thereof. The latter is achieved via movements of part-spherical bearing element (28) and similarly shaped faces (26, 37, 38) of housing 9120. Further seals (33, 34) prevents entry of pumped fluid into chamber (13).
