    Abstract: A dynamic shaft seal assembly is provided including a dynamic seal for engaging a rotary shaft. The dynamic seal includes a base portion that is mounted within a casing and has an axially extending barrel portion extending from a radially inner end of the base portion. The axially extending barrel portion terminates in a radially extending leg portion which extends inwardly from an end of the axially extending portion. A generally conically shaped seal portion extends from an end of the radially extending portion and the seal portion includes a radially inner face engaging the shaft and a radially outer face having a stiffening bead integrally formed thereon. The stiffening bead reduces the seal's propensity for “bell mouthing” while the axially extending barrel portion provides improved shaft followability for the dynamic seal.

    Abstract: A lubricant seal assembly has an outer seal component and a separate inner wear sleeve. The outer seal component has a carrier and a PTFE seal element which lays down against the wear sleeve to provide a seal collar extending to an oil side of the seal assembly. The wear sleeve is formed on an air side of the assembly with an end flange, but is free of any such flanges on the oil side. The end flange has an axial portion extending into the seal component to define a labyrinth debris exclusion path. One or more elastomeric debris exclusion lips are formed on the carrier and are precisely positioned relative to the wear sleeve with the aid of an installation tool that engages end faces of the seal component and wear sleeve to press them into precise axial alignment relative to one another in repeatable fashion.

The piston is used in conjunction with tanks used for transporting semi-solid and viscous materials such as grease, oil, ink, and the like. The improved seal consists of an annular rubber member with a hollow chamber filled with an open cell foam material such as polyurethane, or a gel such as silica gel. The material in the chamber is compressible and expandable to provide a seal about the piston. Additionally, the piston is provided with an annular wiper structure that extends about the outer forward periphery of the piston, and is forwardly angled at about 45.degree. relative to an axis of the piston. The wiper has a beveled end that makes contact with the interior surface of the tank to provide a cleaning action. A complementary second wiper may be added near the outer rearward periphery of the piston.
