Patent number: 10815983Abstract: An end fitting for a tube housed by a cavity and a method of installing a tube in a cavity are described which use a compression ring that defines a void having an axial extent and a radial extent. The compression ring is compressed between a bracket of the end fitting and a port of the cavity by drawing the bracket axially towards the port. This seals the port and deforms the void defined by the compression ring. The deformation of the void reduces its axial extent and increases its radial extent, thereby compressing the tube against an insert received within the interior of the tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2014Date of Patent: October 27, 2020Assignee: Watson-Marlow Bredel B.V.Inventor: Ronald Oude Vrielink

The seal rings are trench structures or filled trench structures in various embodiments. The rounded corner junctions are formed by a curved arc or multiple line segments joined together at various angles. The corner junctions that include one or more enclosed polygons include polygons with at least one polygon side being formed by one of the seal ring sides.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2014Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Volume Chien, Yun-Wei Cheng, I-l Cheng, Shiu-Ko Jangjian, Chi-Cherng Jeng, Hsin-Chi Chen

Publication number: 20120312556Abstract: An annular sealing element to seal between metal surfaces for use in flanges, joints, packers and the like, located in oil and gas exploration and production equipment. The sealing element has inner and outer metal deformable surfaces joined at ends, defining an interior volume which is entirely filled with a plastic deformable material. The surfaces are arranged such that on compression of the element from the ends, the element will deform in a controlled manner on a cantilever principle. The volume of filler and the interior volume remain substantially equal during compression so that delamination does not occur. Thus the sealing element provides a seal combining the flexibility of elastomer seals with the integrity of a metal to metal seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2012Publication date: December 13, 2012Applicant: CALEDYNE LIMITEDInventors: David Martin, Ewan Sinclair

Publication number: 20100001521Abstract: Methods, gaskets, and couplings for connecting two pipes are disclosed. One embodiment of the method includes the steps of placing the assembled coupling over one end of a pipe, aligning the second pipe with the first pipe, sliding the coupling off the end of the first pipe so that a portion of the coupling is around each pipe, and securing the coupling.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2009Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: Mueller Water Products, Inc.Inventors: Peter Joseph Vandal, Douglas Compton

Patent number: 6700088Abstract: A sealing apparatus for effecting a temporary seal against an elongate object. The object is placed in a chamber(17) and supported between inlet and outlet apertures in the walls of the chamber. A resilient seal (32) is placed at the point where the object passes through one of the apertures. A piston (34) is located on the remote side of the seal being operable to compress the seal towards the relevant aperture thereby deforming the seal laterally into contact with the object to seal the periphery of the object. When the piston is released, the seal reverts to its relaxed condition thereby enabling the object to be moved between the two apertures.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2002Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Amchem LimitedInventors: Simon Geoffrey Loynes, Martin Hall

Patent number: 6648339Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing seals in an interference fit with a comating sealing surface by initially stretching the seal installed in a groove to reduce its cross-sectional thickness perpendicular to a comating sealing surface. The stretched seal is mated with a comating surface and then relaxed, permitting the seal to return to an unstretched position and to passively assume a preloaded position against the comating sealing surface. The seal may be repeatedly disengaged and reengaged by selectably restretching the seal and then selectably releasing it upon completion of repositioning.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Inventor: Larry R. Patent number: 6471217Abstract: A sealing assembly for attaching pliable tubes to rigid connecting members, for high pressure, low temperature service, which seals by compressing a sealing wafer around the pliable tubes. The pliable tubes pass through holes in the sealing wafer. As the wafer seal is axially compressed, the wafer seal is restrained against radial expansion, thereby exerting an inward radial pressure on the holes through the wafer seal to cause an hermetic seal between the wafer seal and the pliable tubes. A swage bushing can be used, with swage tubes that are swaged onto the pliable tubes by a swage clamp, for the purpose of axially restraining the pliable tubes.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: CryoGen, Inc.Inventors: John Frederick Hayfield, Eric Lee Ryba

Patent number: 6422574Abstract: This invention relates to a more serviceable seal assembly of the above type, particularly adapted for applications in the cooling systems of internal combustion engines. The seal assembly of this invention comprises an annular ferrule, an elastomeric seal circunferentially disposed thereabout, a pair of annular mounting rings and a clamping device. Tightening of the clamp expands the elastomeric seal outward against the annular mounting rings which are statically sealed within the members of the engine. Selective sizing of the annular mounting rings can be used to control coolant flow. The use of this seal assembly does not require the removal and replacement of members of the engine for installation or servicing.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2000Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Inventor: Charles J.
