Abstract: The present invention relates to a gasket (1) comprising a first discrete component and a second discrete component, wherein the first and second components (20) extend along the length of the gasket (1). The second component (20) is arranged ranged relative to the first component (10) so as to separate the first component (10) at least from one of the two sealing surfaces (2, 4). The first component (10) is relatively hard in at least the thickness direction of the gasket (1) and preferably incompressible and the second component (20) is relatively soft in at least the thickness direction of the gasket (1) and compressible. When the gasket is compressed between two flanges (101, 102), there is a limited region of high compression, because the first component (10) increases the pressure by which the second component (20) is compressed between the surfaces of the flanges. This yields a high leak tightness of the sealing at a relatively low force.

The ingress gap is between the non-contacting seal and the shape-memory alloy portion, between a surface of an electromechanical system and the non-contacting seal, or between the surface of the electromechanical system and the shape-memory alloy. An increase in temperature expands the non-contacting seal and the shape-memory alloy portion substantially maintains the ingress gap. The electromechanical system includes a rotating component and a surface extending around at least a portion of the rotating component and forming the ingress gap. The process includes securing the shape-memory alloy portion, securing the non-contacting seal, and forming the ingress gap.

Abstract: A two-piece assembly having both a plug component and a load component. The plug component includes a protrusion or bite edge that is capable of creating a metal-to-metal seal. The load component is rotated into position such that it provides an axial force on the plug component and increases the quality of the metal-to-metal seal. Rotational force from the load component is not transferred to the plug component because of a zero-moment interface. Thus, the present sealing assembly is capable of sealing at high pressures and avoid creating leak paths in the sealing land.
