For Particular Tool Or Workpiece Patents (Class 279/145)
  • Patent number: 5248078
Abstract: A process is described for inertia bonding a hollow shaft made of superalloy materials without causing compressive deformation in the shaft due to the high compressive forces generated in the segmented collet which grips the shaft. A method is also described for minimizing the residual stress in an inertia bonded joint, where the wall thicknesses of the two shaft portions to be bonded are unequal, by independently controlling the gripping forces on the portions so as to provide equal diameter reduction during the bonding process. A method for converting a front loading inertia bonding machine to a rear loading bonding machine is also described.

  • Patent number: 5213347
Abstract: A socket driveable tap apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus has an exterior cylindrical wall, an interior tap wall and a top ridge. The tap wall and top ridge are located at one end of the apparatus and define a tap receiving aperture. The tap receiving aperture is provided with means for securing a tap in the tap receiving aperture. A bottom ridge and a socket drive aperture are located opposite from the top ridge and are constructed and arranged to facilitate receipt of a standard socket drive.

  • Patent number: 5180261
Abstract: A motor-operated tool is provided for tool sockets revolving about an axis, in particular for drills or spanners. The tool comprises a tool head containing a drive spindle. The drive spindle comprises a driving opening for a drive shank of the tool socket and a plurality of ball elements for engaging a part of the drive shank to lock it in the driving opening. The ball elements preferably are adapted to lock the drive shank in the driving opening automatically and to be released by a suitable mechanism. The tool socket is designed as a drill chuck and is provided with key elements for actuating the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5129118
Abstract: An improved drill accessory apparatus primarily adapted for selective connection to a power tool such as an electric drill to provide additional functions for such a power tool such as a screwdriving function. The apparatus thereby enables a user to first drill a hole and then drive a screw into that drilled hole with the same tool and without requiring removal of a drill bit first used to drill the hole. More significantly, the present apparatus provides the aforementioned accessory feature while overcoming certain safety disadvantages present in the most relevant prior art. One such safety-directed improvement of the present apparatus is derived from a structural design which uses a spring positioned entirely within a housing thereby precluding safety risks that might otherwise be encountered if an external spring were employed such as that shown in the prior art.
