  • Patent number: 11179783
Abstract: A clamping assembly includes a collet adapter and an expansion sleeve movably disposed in collet adapter and a draw pin movably disposed in the expansion sleeve. The expansion sleeve cooperates with the draw pin to define a containment system configured maintain the expansion sleeve within an axial envelope and a radial envelope within the collet adapter. Axial movement of the draw pin in the expansion sleeve within the axial envelope causes a portion of the expansion sleeve to expand radially outward to a predetermined maximum diameter to releasably clamp the collet in the collet adapter.

  • Patent number: 8752843
Abstract: A collet has seal bores formed in interspaces of the collet. The seal bores are oriented at an acute angle ? to the longitudinal axis of the collet, and extend towards a tool end of the collet, from a clamping surface of the collet to a collet peripheral surface. Adjacent the clamping bore, the collet has stopping surfaces for accurately locating the seals. When inserted into the seal bores, the seals prevent fluid leakage between the clamping bore surface and the peripheral surface of the collet.

  • Patent number: 8257003
Abstract: A side actuated collet lock mechanism includes a collet; a drawbar at least partially disposed within the collet, and a pair of wedge members threadingly received onto each end of a double-ended drive screw. The drive screw is rotated to cause the wedge members to move downward such that a first cam surface engages the drawbar. The drawbar and collet are pulled into the tool holder and firmly secure the shank. To remove the shank, the drive screw is rotated in an opposite direction to cause the wedge members to move upward such that a second cam surface engages the drawbar. The drawbar and the collet are pushed out from the toolholder, thereby releasing the shank.

  • Patent number: 8029216
Abstract: A chuck and an article are configured such that the article is releasably secured in the chuck. One of the chuck and article is provided with a crest and the other with a trough. When the article is secured to the chuck, the crest enters the trough so as help prevent slippage of one with respect to the other. The chuck may include a receiver having a tapered bore, a collet having a complementarily tapered outer surface, and a nut configured to be threadingly secured to a forward end of the receiver; the article may be a shank, such as a tool shank. An inner surface of the collet may be provided with a crest which is configured to fit into a trough formed on the shank. In a secured position, the shank is accommodated in the bore of the collect with the crest of the collet at least partially occupying the trough of the shank, thereby preventing movement of the shank relative to the collet, which itself is accommodated in the bore of the receiver.

  • Patent number: 7958619
Abstract: A chuck holds a disk by the inside diameter with a plurality of contact surfaces at the end of fingers. Axial motion of an actuator is translated into outward radial movement of the fingers to place the contact surfaces in contact with the inside diameter of the disk. The force that is applied to the disk is limited to reduce or eliminate warping or curvature of the disk, e.g., a sleeve that surrounds the fingers can be used as a hard stop to physically limit the range of outward radial movement of the fingers.

  • Patent number: 7758289
Abstract: To compensate for tolerances and diameter differences during the chucking of a tool shank (15) in a tool holder (1) of the shrink-fit chuck type, a diameter-compensating bush (17) is provided. The diameter-compensating bush (17) has an outer sleeve (19) having a tapered inner circumferential surface (25) and an inner sleeve (21) arranged coaxially therein and having a tapered outer circumferential surface (27). Once the diameter-compensating bush (17) has been put onto the tool shank (15) and the inner sleeve (21) has been drawn into the outer sleeve (19), for example by means of a ring nut (35), for the diameter compensation, the outer sleeve (19) is thermally shrunk in place in the locating section (9) of the tool holder (1). In this way, rotary tools whose tool shank (15) does not have a diameter corresponding to the diameter or the tolerance requirements of the tool holder (1) can be chucked in a tool holder (1), for example, of the shrink-fit chuck type.
