Abstract: A worm reducer includes a worm shaft; a worm wheel; a housing that houses the worm shaft and the worm wheel; a bearing that holds the worm shaft inside the housing; a coil spring that contacts an outer peripheral surface of the bearing and applies an urging force toward the worm wheel; and a preload member that is screwed into and fixed to the housing and pressurizes the coil spring. A winding direction of the coil spring is different from a winding direction of a thread of the preload member, and contact resistance between the coil spring and the preload member is greater than contact resistance between the coil spring and the bearing.

  • Patent number: 11304412
Abstract: A line attaching apparatus, system and method for attaching to a line end without the need for tying a knot. The invention further comprises a line attaching apparatus, system and method for attaching to a first line end portion to a second line end portion without the need for tying a knot. The line end portions may be captured in a collet having a line retention and a line insertion/removal state. The collet may be biased into a line retention state by a biasing force that causes the collet to close around a line, preventing the line from translating within the collet. The line insertion/removal state may be achieved by motivation of a plunger against the biasing force, allowing the collet to open so that a line moves freely within the collet opening. An exemplary, non-limiting use is the attachment of a lure or hook to a fishing line.

Abstract: A lacrosse stick for reducing the rebound of a ball caught therein. The head of the lacrosse stick has a socket for receiving the shaft, and incorporates one or a plurality of flexible elastomer pads within or as part of the handle or socket, where the head and handle meet, to damp impact and rebound. The flexibility of the damping pads produces a “give” that minimizes the rebound of a pocket after being impacted by a ball. This pocket dampening limits the movement of the ball and makes the ball easier to control and to retain in the pocket. The precise location of the dampening material on the lacrosse head may be varied to control the degree of pocket “give” in response to, for example, the force on the pocket created by a ball impacting the pocket during a catch or swinging in the pocket during cradling.

Abstract: A tool holder for a tool with a recess having detent disposed therein for holding the tool axially, and having a sleeve telescoped over a collet which has flexible fingers and with the sleeve and the fingers having camming surfaces for effecting clamping onto the tool. The axial locations of the recess and the detent and the camming surfaces are such that they are all in an engaged position when the sleeve is in one position along the axis. The sleeve and the collet have chamfers interengagable upon telescopic movement between the sleeve and the collet for flexing the fingers to thereby have the collet slide into the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7036409
Abstract: In a spindle assembly for machine tools, the axial length ? of the collar of a spring collet is determined as a function of the axial course length c of a clamping sleeve operating spring collet. This axial length ? is preferably retained within an interval ranging between 3 mm and 9 mm. A tapering surface of the collar presents an inclined profile, which is straight, curved, or at least partially curved. The angle of inclination formed by the tapering surface with the axis of the spring collet is advantageously of the order of 45°. The spring collet has at least two grooves. The gap between these grooves may be determined in such a way that, when the spring collet is in the closed position, then the workpiece is gripped with a predetermined clamping force, and the two mutually opposing faces of each groove portion abut against each other.

  • Patent number: 6832433
Abstract: The present invention comprises a machining apparatus including a work piece holder having an adapter body with an axial bore and a translating portion located within the axial bore of the adapter body. The translating portion has a proximal end for coupling with a retention knob collet of a spindle and a distal end for attaching to a collet. The work piece holder includes a retaining piece coupling the adapter body and the translating portion allowing the translating portion to move axially within the adapter body. The apparatus facilitates a rotating spindle grasping and rotating a work piece to be brought into contact with a processing tool held stationary on a work table. The present invention also includes a fixture block for attaching milling tools and other devices to a work table and a method of operating a milling machine utilizing the fixture block and work piece holder.

  • Patent number: 6726221
Abstract: A collet chuck assembly includes a mount, a selectively-axially-movable collet closing sleeve, and a multiple-segment collet head. The collet head includes two axially-spaced outer circumferential cam surfaces that engage two axially-spaced inner circumferential cam surfaces of the closing sleeve. A quick-release cap attached to the mount includes two inwardly-radially-extending tabs that engage two outwardly-radially-extending lips of the collet head to prevent the collet head from moving axially relative to the cap. Flat resilient collet seals are disposed between each set of adjoining collet segments to prevent debris from getting into the collet chuck assembly between the segments. The collet seals maintain full-surface contact with adjoining segments even when the collet head is fully opened. A slinger bore formed in the cap directs debris radially-outwardly out of the collet chuck assembly.

  • Patent number: 6640679
Abstract: A collet chuck assembly for an axially fixed collet head. The collet head is fixedly and removably mounted in a threaded bushing to prevent axial motion, and is keyed into place to prevent rotation. A sleeve assembly has cam surfaces adapted to engage the cam surfaces of the collet head to open and close the collet head, and slides between collet head open and collet head closed positions within a spindle adapter body. The sleeve assembly has projections that extend from a rearward portion and pass through appropriately sized passages in the axially-fixed bushing. Motion from a spindle drawbar is transmitted by a drawbar link-up through the projections of the sleeve assembly. Using this arrangement, no physical connection is required between the drawbar link-up and the sleeve assembly. Additionally, no cap assembly is required.

  • Patent number: 6557860
Abstract: Each of a plurality of passages in a fixture has a piston movable therein and cooperating with a collet therein to simultaneously move each collet to its workpiece retaining position and to release each collet from its workpiece retaining position. A recess in the bottom of the fixture supports a locking nut for each passage. Each locking nut has a circular passage extending therethrough to receive an end of the collet having threads on its outer surface. The circular passage has threads of the same pitch but the threads have an interrupted portion in the circumferential and axial directions. The locking nut has a first portion movable relative to a second portion to take up the pitch clearance in the threads on the collet due to the interrupted portion of threads in the circular passage to prevent rotation of the collet prior to the piston moving the collet to its workpiece retaining position.

Abstract: A fixed length collet chuck assembly for holding a workpiece in which the collet only translates radially and not axially is provided. The fixed length collet chuck has a longitudinal, central axis and includes a chuck body assembly and a collet. As a draw tube is pulled toward the spindle of a machine, such as a lathe, a tapered actuator forces ball bearings against a retaining plate and the ball bearings are forced radially outwards causing a taper ring to move axially away from the spindle and into contact with a bushing ring. The bushing ring is connected to a collet sleeve through three bushings which are radially and equally spaced around the longitudinal, central axis of the assembly. The inner surface of the collet sleeve tapers outward from the longitudinal, central axis of the assembly. A collet bears against the inner tapered surface of the collet sleeve.
