    Abstract: This disclosure concerns a tool fixing mechanism including a hollow grip and a resilient clip body. The grip has a front end and a rear end. The front end is formed with a slot, while the rear end is formed with a cross-shaped socket. Two windows are respectively formed on the top and bottom walls of the rear end of the grip. The resilient clip body is located in the cross-shaped socket of the grip. The resilient clip body is formed with two lugs extending out of the windows of the grip. Therefore, if a user depresses the lugs, the resilient clip body is closed or stretched open so as to fixedly latch or release a tool inserted in the slot of the front end of the grip.

    Abstract: A surgical instrument has a housing which contains a motor that drives a spindle. A tool bit is attached to the motor by a holder that includes a body with a first end portion connected to the spindle, a central portion with a cavity therein, and a second end portion having an aperture through which a shaft of the tool bit passes into the cavity. A pair of lock pawls are pivotally mounted in the cavity with each one having a first tab that enters a slot in the shaft when the lock pawls are in a first position to hold the tool bit in the instrument. The first tabs retract from the slot when the lock pawls are in a second position for changing the tool bit. The lock pawls have second tabs that engage a restrainer only in the second position to prevent the body from rotating. A ring extends around the body and pivots the lock pawls between the first and second positions when the ring moved longitudinally along the body.

Mounting takes place because via the sphere the saw-blade generates a moment in clockwise direction relative to the shaft. This moment is counteracted by a moment that is generated by the friction between the actuating rod and the contact surface.

    Abstract: An attachment to a socket wrench and the like carries a rocker arm in a recess in the body of the attachment. The rocker arm rocks about a shaft inserted transversely of the arm in a pair of apertures in the attachment body. At one end of the arm a compression spring seated in a concavity in the attachment body urges a detent carried on the other end of the arm to enter through an opening into the engaging receptacle at the other end of the body.A nut forced into the engaging receptacle cams the end of the detent outwardly of the receptacle, and when the nut is seated, the action of the spring on the arm causes the nut to be retained. By simply pressing on the arm against the spring, the spring may be further compressed to release a nut in the engaging receptacle.

The tool is inserted into the passage and has a thickness sufficient to urge the segment out of engagement with the bit so that the bit is removed from the chuck.

    Abstract: A quick-change mechanism is provided between a male member and a female member which has a socket with an axis. A flange is provided on each member, and in the flange of the female member an eccentric circular cam is pivotably mounted on one side of the socket. The cam may be pivoted through an arc between a locked and an unlocked condition in a single plane. The unlocked condition moves the cam laterally outwardly beyond the cam follower surface in the male member. As the cam is rotated towards the locked condition, the cam locking surface moves in a single plane laterally inwardly and establishes an axially inward force on the cam follower surface. The quick-change mechanism is small and compact and contained entirely within the flange of the female member. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.

The other end of the adapter has six sides for attaching the tool holder to the drill. A flat driving face is provided at the tapered bore for engaging a complementary driven face formed in the tapered end of the tool. The tool is secured axially within the tapered bore by a latch element which extends into the tapered bore to engage a recess in the tapered end of the tool. The latch element can be a pivotal latch plate mounted for movement in a radial plane or a radially extending detent assembly. The latch element can also be magnetic.

    Abstract: A punch and retainer assembly wherein the punch has a non-circular punching end and a flattened surface at the upper end of its side wall. A strong leaf spring biases the latch downwardly into engagement with the flat inclined surface on the punch so that the cylindrical surface of the latch engages the flat inclined surface on the punch with line contact that is perpendicular to the vertical axis of the punch.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a chuck for use in a motor driven tool. The chuck is internally mounted within a transverse opening which intersects a longitudinal opening in the output shaft of the motor driven tool and includes an internal, transversely mounted hardened roller which locks a tool bit in the motor output shaft only when a torque or resistance is applied to the tool bit. The torque or resistance creates a twisting moment applied about the axis of the tool bit to lift the roller into engagement with an interior portion of the transverse opening to thereby lock the bit relative to the motor driven tool. In the quiescent state the tool bit is unlocked and may be readily removed from the motor driven tool or inserted at almost any given angle. The motor output shaft and associated bearings provide essentially the entire structural support for the tool housing.

    Abstract: One end of an oscillating saw blade has a notch, and spaced from the notch is a hole through the blade. The head of the tool has a slot having a shaft extending through the rear end of the slot for receiving the notch. A pin extends partially into the slot for receiving the hole. A closer in the form of a cam is cammed into and out of the slot for moving the hole on the blade onto the pin and moving the end of the blade having the hole and the notch against the bottom of the slot. The cam closer is locked in place to lock the blade in the slot. A handle is attached to the cam closer for manually rotating the cam, and the cam has an overcenter orientation where the resilient forces from the blade pushing on the cam tend to rotate the cam to a closed position. A stop is provided to intersect the handle and stop it in its locked position. A jaw of resilient material may be provided between the blade and the bottom of the slot to spread forces from the cam on the blade.
