  • Patent number: 6921095
Abstract: A hand trolley includes a chassis formed from side frames comprising parallel frame members, wheels and a base platform provided with a load lifting carriage having a lifting surface. The carriage can be raised from a low position on the base platform to an elevated position by operating a hand cranked winch with a crank handle rotatable about an axle located proximate to a hand grip on the chassis rails and parallel to the axis of the wheels. The positioning and orientation of the crank handle allows correct ergonomic use by an operator who can grip the trolley chassis with one hand while controlling and operating the crank handle in an ergonomically sound position.

  • Patent number: 6851685
Abstract: A hand truck having load shifting member which tilts the hand truck under conditions of greater leverage than that available by grasping the frame of the hand truck is disclosed. The load shifting member comprises a spring retracting lever rotatably attached to an axle journaled from the frame of the hand truck such that when in a retracted position, the lever is substantially parallel to the frame. Pulling on the upper end of the lever rotates the lever such that the lower end of the lever engages the lower portion of the hand truck frame, shifting the center of gravity of the loaded hand truck such that it may be more easily tilted to a position for moving the hand truck. A spring returns the lever to a retracted position when not in use.

  • Patent number: 6457727
Abstract: A hand truck includes an automatic height adjusting load platform, or alternatively, a kit of components provides for adding an adjustable load platform to an existing hand truck. The load platform position is held in a raised position while under no load conditions. A user places an article including a package on the raised platform, which is configured to rest at approximately waist level. In response to the weight of the article, the platform lowers, but the downward motion of the platform is inhibited by a platform arrestor. Preferably, the platform arrestor is configured such that the distance the platform will drop due to the weight of the load is proportional to the height of the article placed upon the platform. Thus the top of the article first placed upon the load platform is now substantially at waist level. This process can continue until the platform is lowered to the bottom of the shaft that the platform is slidably mounted to.
