Adjustable Length Draft Devices Patents (Class 280/482)
  • Patent number: 5327978
Abstract: A telescoping draft link assembly includes a hollow first tractor-coupled link and a second implement-coupled link slidably received by a channel in the first link. A pocket is formed in the first link next to the channel. A plate is pivotally mounted in the pocket and is pivotal from a release position wherein the plate is entirely received in the pocket to a locking position wherein at least a portion of the plate projects into the channel. The second link has a notch formed therein, an end of the notch forming a shoulder which is engageable with the plate to releasably hold the second link in the retracted position. A spring is biased to urge the plate towards its locking position and a knob is attached to the plate so that an operator may pivot the plate to a release position.

Abstract: An adjustable length drawbar assembly includes a cage which is pivotally attached to the rear of a vehicle and a drawbar which slides in the cage. A plurality of spaced apart bores extending laterally through the drawbar. A pair of claws are mounted to a selected one of the bores by a pin and springs bias the claws towards the drawbar. A pair of recesses are formed at the rear end of the cage adjacent to a pair of ramp surfaces. The claws are spread apart as they slide over the ramp surfaces, and the claws have tabs which are received by the recesses to releasably lock the drawbar into the desired position with respect to the cage. The claws may be pulled away from each other and out of the recesses, and then rotated on the pins 90.degree. to disable the locking mechanism.

Abstract: In the case of the adjustable upper link in a three-point suspension device for a tractor, comprising a locking device in the form of a line fitted with a shut-off device and connecting together the two end-faces of the hydraulic cylinder, the invention simplifies the operation of the device in that it may be adjusted effortlessly from the tractor-seat. This is achieved in that the shut-off device is in the form of a ball-valve having an axis secured to a forked actuating lever, and in that springs are provided to urge the said actuating lever towards the shut-off position. A scale provides the tractor-driver with an accurate indication of the setting of the link. • Patent number: 4202562
Abstract: An auxiliary towing hitch assembly and hitch extension for attaching a trailer to a towing vehicle such as a pickup truck, having a conventional towing hitch and mounting a body, such as a long camper body, which overhangs the rear end of the towing vehicle a distance such as to preclude direct attachment of the trailer to the vehicle hitch. The hitch assembly comprises a hitch extension in the form of a tow bar having front coupling means for releasable attachment to the towing vehicle hitch and rear coupling means for attachment to the trailer hitch. This hitch extension is removable to permit direct attachment of the trailer to the vehicle hitch when the overhanging vehicle body is removed.

  • Patent number: 4153269
Abstract: A hydraulically operated variable length top guide coupling member for use in three point linkage couplings for attaching agricultural implements to farm tractors includes a cylinder and a main piston with piston rod carried for longitudinal movement within the cylinder to thereby vary the length of the coupling member. Articulation means are carried at one end of the cylinder and at the other end of the piston rod for connecting the coupling member between a tractor and an agricultural implement. A pair of hydraulic lines provide communication between a source of hydraulic fluid and cylinder spaces on opposite sides of the main piston. A one-way valve is located in the path of communication between each of the hydraulic lines and the respective cylinder spaces. A control piston is carried between the two one-way valves for controlling opening of the valves.

  • Patent number: 4149736
Abstract: A three point linkage for attaching a working machine to a vehicle includes two lower guide members, a substantially U-shaped coupling frame pivotally connected at its ends with the lower guide members, and an upper guide member supported by tension springs from the U-shaped coupling frame. A length adjusting device is carried by the upper guide member for longitudinally varying its length. The upper guide member can be secured in various adjusted length positions. A link is connected between the coupling frame and the length adjusting device for actuating the adjusting device to vary the length of the upper guide member upon the application of pressure to the coupling frame. A catch hook for connection to the working machine is carried at one end of the upper guide member and the hook can be locked and unlocked by movement of the coupling frame.

  • Patent number: 4148498
Abstract: Improvements in trailer hitch apparatus of the type used in heavy hauling, particularly for the transport of mobile home structures. The apparatus includes hydraulically elongatable tongue structure with height adjustable connector ball assembly as supported from the main rear truck frame structure; the apparatus is utilized in combination with a leaf-coil rear wheel spring structure that provides primary truck suspension. The trailer hitch is operable to support its towed structure in any of the open or closed elongated positions in order to better enable certain vehicle maneuvers, achieve optimum handling in emergency situations, and provide a more rugged, yet smoother riding connection to the towing vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4126057
Abstract: An adjustable length upper guide member for the hitch attachment of a tractor has an outer tubular guide element within which is telescopingly positioned an inner guide element so as to be relatively displaceable thereto. A housing on the outer guide element has a pair of jaws pivotally mounted therein and the jaws each have first arms which are engageable with annular grooves on the inner guide element and second arms which form actuating cams facing each other. A lever has an eccentric portion within the housing and one side of the eccentric portion is engageable against the housing and the other side of the eccentric portion engageable with the actuating cams so that pivoting of the lever causes the eccentric portion to act upon the cams and pivot the jaws to a disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 4034999
Abstract: For use in a 3-point hitch for a tractor or the like wherein there is provided a top link of variable length and a pair of powered lift arms, an improved top link including an elongated threaded rod, a connector for securing the rod to either a tractor or an implement, and a nut structure threaded on the rod. A connector is provided for securing the nut structure to the other of the tractor or the implement and the nut structure is split so that it may move radially relative to the rod to engage or disengage the same. An actuator is provided for selectively effecting the relative movement or precluding the relative movement and may be operated to allow the relative radial movement of the nut relative to the rod to disengage the same from the rod whereby the rod may be moved axially relative to the nut without rotation to rapidly adjust the link to a desired length. Relative movement of the nut toward the rod to engage the same may then be effected to maintain the link at the desired length.
